I don't think it's a Manitoba thing. If I sell anything I ask for cash. If it's a larger dollar item, I have asked for bank draft, which seems solid. Dad and I bought an older 4wd a few years ago, out by Steinbach. I guess we must look honest, because we asked the guy what he wanted for payment and he said personal check was fine! (the check was good btw

I don't know, maybe it is a manitoba thing? Maybe we are to trusting? Bought a 9880 last spring and the guy said just a cheque would be fine, didn't need it certified, but we did for his piece of mind. Lots of people will buy something, say a vehicle from a dealership or equipment, pay for it, then get delivery. It shouldn't be an issue with any reputable business, a private deal is different.
Ha, now you guys are getting me worked up again thinking about Leon's! lol It's going to be a slower winter around here as most of our grain is hauled out, maybe I will be a burr in their britches for awhile, just for something to do. Was it Marketplace that used to do undercover stings on bad businesses?

I'll do personal checks, that's never really bothered me but I've never been burnt either that way. Did have a guy refuse to pay his chopping bill once so I impounded some hay bales.
Hear Kinze is wanting prepaid for their planters to guarantee delivery which would be a no go for me. Ordered a White last June for next year, no prepay, no deposit. Dealer has my old planter sold and that guy was wanting it early, salesman said he'd check with me but doubtful. I said he can have it as early as my new one shows up. Still in my shed.

I think it may be an Manitoba thing haha. Reminds of the time a long while back we were dealing on a combine in southern Manitoba. Rained or something so we asked the guy if he would mind meeting us on a Saturday. He said he was busy but come on down and he’d leave the keys in and we could run it and do as we wished. We were pretty surprised as that sort of thing would never happen around here. Anyhow we did exactly that. Drove down and checked it out and ended up buying it and all was well.

Was just sitting here killing time so thought I would check to see if their ratings have improved, not to my surprise they are still up to the same old. One thing I noticed though is the BBB has suspended their ratings because of the pattern of complaints, not sure if that means maybe they are actually looking into what’s going on with that company? Would sure love to see them shut down and all of them involved in the scams sent to jail. Not a bad idea to maybe keep this thread active to help save someone thinking of doing something stupid and buying from them, I have a feeling they are on their last leg.

I looked up the BBB comments ( yes I see yours from a while ago ) and see the latest one is May of this year 2022 and from what appears to be a sales person from an equipment outlet chain warning potential buyers of the mess, not the equipment itself but the company and how it deals with customers. Interesting, so they still have not pulled up their socks and I can only guess its a financial mess they must be in and desperately juggling the balls in the air to keep them afloat.

I meant to post this last week when I got home from my trip. On the way home we came through Yorkton, I joked to my wife that we should go pay Leon’s a visit, turned out we ended up going right by them! It was a Saturday so no people or vehicles around, but by the look of things, nothing in the compound that I could see, absolutely nothing, no machine, metal, equipment. I wonder if they are finished? Anyone know if they are still in business? From what I seen I would say no. Looked up the BBB again and they now have a warning at the top of the page about this company. From my experience with the BBB, it has to get really bad to get to this point where they have a warning.

Their website still works so what that means is anyone's guess, you may have to call them in the morning and order a scraper !

I called this spring for a quote on a quick attach bucket for my loader, talked to the sales rep, but he never did send me a quote.

I phoned for a quote for a blade in February as I was looking at a used one, so I wanted a comparable. Told me they could start building immediately as soon as they had a deposit. I ended up buying used, but not entirely happy with it. It sticks way too far out the front end, and it's way too heavy. Hard to control, and way to bouncy, wants to cut way to deep, even with the bigger skid plates I built. The need to change the lifting mechanism so it doesn't stick so far out the front. I added all the weights I have to the back and it's still too heavy or unbalanced.

So they are still doing the old deposit trick!! Please tell me you didn’t give them a deposit?
Looks like they are at one of the ag shows in Saskatchewan this week, guess they’re still in business.

Looking for advise on how to proceed with Leon's. We have gone to the BBB Saskatchewan, and played a year long game with Leon's. Todate still have not received funds. Would going through the court system get better results?
Has anyone out there had any sucess in getting their refund and if so how?

Any dealer who carries Leon’s must be ready to quit them. Becomes an issue of integrity for the dealer to customers. Before I heard anything about this shitshow i remember guys with the manure spreaders said getting parts was a mess and ordering a machine took forever. They are a decent enough horizontal spreader though the verticals are making them obsolete. Year or two ago a naïve Mennonite boy was bragging to me about becoming a Leon dealer. I didn’t have the heart to tell him. Hope he read these forums.
