How come every time you unhook the mic in the tractor/combine/truck it wants to make about three revolutions to relieve tension? This happen to anyone else?
Any other great mysteries out there?

I have several. One is where do my thoughts go when I walk through the shop door? I can be working on something in front of the shop, need a tool or part, but the second I enter the shop, whatever it was I was after is completely gone from my mind! Sometimes have to go right back to what I was working on to get it back in my head. And I’m not even old yet!
How can I set something down, not move from my spot, and instantly not be able to find it again? Then like magic it just reappears. Is my shop built right on top of a portal?
How does the tool I always need seem to be right under the creeper?
One time I couldn’t find the sink stopper for the kitchen sink. My mother in law was in for a visit. Her, my wife, and myself looked everywhere for it, even went through the garage thinking it got thrown out. Couldn’t find it all day, then I walk past the sink and see it sitting on the ledge that divides the two sinks. That one still blows my mind.

Not sure about the others as I have experienced them but was told once the reason for the shop door is that it is the "doorway" that is at fault.. Everything is compartmentalized in your brain and the thought does not transfer from one compartment to the other when you go thru the door. The thought is not gone, you just have to back to the other compartment and hope you can find it. Sort of like seeing the plug for the sink.

How about when you unhook something and crank it well off the drawbar only to come back in a hour to find it too low. I understand on dirt, but on packed rock or concrete? Never understood that.

How does the tool I always need seem to be right under the creeper? If you are talking about 10mm sockets and 9/16 wrenches they are a figment of everyone's imagination, it looks like that set has one when you buy it, but as soon as you own it and open it they are like unicorns, very few people can see them and they move around magically of their own free will!

The going for a tool and forgetting what you went for is so right, could have written that myself. I think in addition to what oldguy48 said part of my problem is once I leave a project to get something I start looking around and thinking of what's next or other other things going on. Worst is when the phone rings, completely de-rails whatever was going on. My brain used to be able to handle 10 things simultaneously, but now I actually kinda enjoy ordinary tasks like mowing lawn or weeding the garden. I have a new mystery just, learned of this one in last few months: Why is it that whenever you put fresh bedding out for the cows and have everything all perfect it immediately snows.

Speculating here partly, that one aspect could be time of day as per the tires are not heated up fully from the sun yet and so after you have cranked the hitch up on the implement, the tractor tires increase in pressure due to both heat of day and as well the sun hitting the tires causes much higher temps inside the tire then the actual ambient air temp. large low pressure tires increase percentage wise a lot in air pressure depending on their internal temp and the typical radial tractor tire has quite a squat to it so a lot of potential side wall movement based on internal pressure. I would expect a radial tire to rise up the hitch further then a similar bias tire that doesn't have near the tire flex and usually is set higher in pressure to begin with. Think of the radial tire a bit like an air bag on a truck.

Orrrrrr, every farm has little gremlins running around just screwing with us all. This is the most likely scenario.

Yup 1/2 inch wrenches and ball peen hammers here, oddly enough the grease guns never go missing

I think those gremlins adjust the volume on the radio while the tractor is shut off cause there is no way it was that loud when it was shut off.
How is it that a grease gun is empty 90% of the time when you go to use it.

Or how come a grease gun won't run out in an easy to get to spot? It's always in some spot you need to crawl to, twist like a corkscrew to reach, can barely get the tip to go on the zerk, give it 2 pumps, of which half squirts out the side, when it runs out or gets a gulp of air.

Telling the farm helpers what to do and what follows is a mighty mystery to me.! Usually I get the "I had no choice" in response to poor instructions !!!! A neighbour for example went to Coop to pick up chemical for a few days of spraying. He went in for lunch and told his helper to unload the chemical so he can go spraying after supper. Well , the helper unloaded all of it into the sprayer!! That load was dumped behind the yard and start over!!! I have had my fair share of poor instructions . Reading somebodies mind after an obvious screw up is a mighty big mystery TO ME and is not made better by "I HAD NO CHOICE" response!! he he he.

Have lost more then one pair of sun glasses after putting them on top of my head and loosing them, only to lean back into the equipment I was working on and proceeding to break them beyond use. Also is it a bad sign when you spend forever looking for the 9/16 wrench only to discover it's in your left hand and been holding it the whole time???
