Go for the land kev, and dont look back. Is soybeans a go on that land? Bean seed prices are reasonable and new crop prices are over 14 bucks. I am not straying from beans even thou this year they crapped the bed. I am actually a little afraid to grow canola this coming year. I ll put a bit in but the inputs on that crop plus the flea beetles and grass hoppers and one big rain can cook that crop. Back in 2007 I had big canola acres and it was so wet the crop was disced down. That was painful and very stupid! I learned my lesson. That year oats were bumper and beans were bumper. I need a crystal ball!
I think less canola acres will allow me to ride my new indian chief ! I will get a picture soon!
One thing I did notice this week is natural gas is half the price as earlier this year! WTF with the nh3 prices than. Someone will take a hit if that trend continues. I was told by AL Kluis to be patient with NH3 needs this spring. Basically he said dont buy now, which is completely opposite statement from my retail dealer. I suspect he but some at 1800-2000/t and wants 2200t from me. Silly question but what is the carbon cost on fert now? I am set up for one pass nh3, p and seed in spring so fall was not a go for me or impossible to store product.

We've never grown beans, some guys here tried them for a few years, and now only a few, doesn't sound like money makers but mostly for a rotation thing. Just not enough heat units here, if you go maybe 15 miles away the beans are twice as tall as what grows here, so would assume yield would be quite a bit better, I really know nothing about them. The heat and sun we had this year proved that our lack of heat units are our biggest drawback, had good crops, and my garden grew probably 3x what it would on a normal year, and I can control the water on it. Not worried too much about a drought, but it's still a possibility, too much moisture becomes a problem fairly easily. We have good land here, it's the growing conditions that are the biggest drawback. We can have good yields, but most times lucky to get 2/3 of what many on here can grow, that's where the increased risk comes into play. Still costs as much to grow a lesser crop.

Got a surprise today, ordered 8 tires for the tractor on Thursday, they were in today! Even the dealer was surprised, sounds like he's having a hard time getting most things. Still not sure if we should put them on right away, should get some use out of the ones on the tractor, but was afraid of some of them failing in the spring then being SOL. Came from Morden area originally I think so assume it's damage from corn, tread is good, it's the area between lugs that's in rough shape.

Change them out and advertise the take-offs. Might get something for them but once they fail they are worthless. Then you have less risk of trouble in season.
Had a leaky airbag on one truck and then a week later one blew on the other truck, so figured they all probably will need replacing soon. Went to order 8 new bags and that was a week ago, so far I have 4 and rest are coming at some point in future... Went to get the 4 bags today and $756 later we were good!!! Been awhile since I changed an airbag but thinking this is up substantially. Was told brake drums are in tight supply as well and wanted to change hood release cables and they only had one of those, waiting for second one.
Guys if you think you might need something even 6 months out get it bought now. Supply chain is in bad shape.

I bought four Firestone 23 degree tires on rims for my tractor this summer, guy just bought them new for his tractor then the engine went within 100 hours. Figured I would just buy 4 more new ones and I'd have nice new set of matching rubber on. Noooo way! checked this fall and there is none in western Canada. Gotta wait until they run another batch of them and there is no way to know when that will be. Guess I'll throw these ones on the inside and keep checking if they come available in the next few months.

SWMan, what brand of truck is this and where were you sourcing the airbags, at the dealer or an aftermarket supplier like FGI for example.

They are in rough enough shape I doubt anyone would ever buy them now, so worth more to me on the tractor, I guess? Hate to waste them if I can get some more use out of them. The dealer we buy from has been great to us, I have no worries of being down for long if they begin to crap out on us, he would be there in a heartbeat. A couple years ago we had a flat on a rear tire on the combine at about 5 o'clock on a Friday of a long weekend. Tried the closest tire shop, nope, they wouldn't do it. Worried we would be out of luck for the weekend. Tried this other dealer we usually deal with, yup, will be right there, they're about 30-40 minutes away from us. We went and had supper and when we got done went back out and he was just finishing up. Dealers like that are worth their weight in gold. We get 90% of our tires from him, don't even shop around for price, he's worth it.

Go for the land kev, and dont look back. Think we picked up close to another 500 acres today, rented. Could have doubled our land base but just don't want to do that, 500 is a big enough risk for a farm our size. Also upgraded our combine last week, went to a CR 8.90, a couple years newer and about half the hours, looks in good shape, fingers crossed.

Went to get chicken feed today, canola is showing up at my co-op. Maybe make some phone calls. Busy as hell there too, apparently I am not the only one who pays attention to the forecast....

SWMan, what brand of truck is this and where were you sourcing the airbags, at the dealer or an aftermarket supplier like FGI for example. They are 2013 Volvo trucks. The airbags are Hendrickson made by Firestone so would think pretty common, there is a boatload of these trucks on the road! Just went to the local truck shop and parts person phoned probably 3-4 places while I was there. Seems these are aftermarket, branded "Road Choice", not sure if I should be concerned about quality(says made in Mexico which is better than China). I gather FGI is the place that still has brake drums, but when the other guys start buying from them to re-sell it could mean things get crazy soon. And I gather lumber is on the way back up in price again after a short reprieve...

Not really anything new for one dealership to buy from another, have had that happen a few different times at the truck shops in Brandon. One thing about the trucking business, they seem to be more willing to work together to keep the trucks rolling, not like in ag.
Yes lumber is going back up, glad I bought what I did when I did, even though it was more than I was wanting to. Noticed the other day Home Depot 2x4x8's had gone up 80 cents or so if I remember correctly.

Hendrickson seems to have a massive list of various airbag styles which like anything I would guess there would be a few very common ones in use on trucks that have many of a model type on the road and use the same style suspension. I assumed they would only have a few bag styles but I was so wrong on that guess. Its a while ago I would have last bought an air bag, probably 3 years ago and for a Pete Air Trac and it was a bit over 100.00 at FGI, imagine that price has changed.
Here is the weird thing when it comes to finding parts and I will use FGI as an example. I had ordered a set of mufflers and this is a few years ago now and she said they would be in within a week or less, I get no call and had stopped in and she said oh ... "they had them but wouldn't give them up" as they were to come from another location and they wanted them for their own customers and not for some other location. It took weeks or probably a month or something crazy like that to get them because of where they would have come from. Now with the way things are I can see more of that going on with the same company not wanting to let go of any product to another retailer even though its the same chain !.
Now that you have a part number or I assume so or can be cross referenced to the real firestone part, try calling some places on your own directly and see if they happen to have what you are looking for "magically" on the shelf now. What does it say the P/N is ?

It seems like the parts man just got in habit of saying no we don’t have it,then after a little searching they find it

$17.10, up from $14.80 at the end of May. I know peavy was always a couple of bucks higher, but never that much. Chickens also would cut back on eggs if they got the hi-pro stuff from peavy.
