Can't buy and bring home herbicides for next spring either.

The canola seed we booked from Richardson is package deal with the Roundup, so they must be thinking they can still Roundup for next year. I like their optimism!

Can still get glyphosate now and bring it home from Richardson. Any chemical you'd normally apply in the fall can be purchased. No spring herbicides are being sold right now, however.

Glyphosate can be ordered now from China. Claims it will be here before xmas. At $13liter. What shortage? Two 1000 lites totes is $26000. Three months ago 2 totes were $11500.

Glyphosate and liberty are doubled here the ay it sounds but most other chemicals should be relatively flat from what I'm hearing. I've got all nitrogen booked in reasonably, now NH3 is $1200/ton, 28% 600/ton, not sure on 32%. P and K have doubled, got caught there but backed down to a one year spread instead of 2 and hope it cheapens up next year. Hog manure is pretty valuable right now.
Fair amount of talk of doing second year soybeans right now, we shall see. Wheat market seems to be on fire from what I hear so that could easily pul acres in the fringe areas.

Glyphosate has doubled here as well. On average, all fertilizers have doubled as well. We've been told to expect a 25% increase in chemical costs generally.

The 2023 growing year may be the year that hurts the most. Most of us have buffered ourselves with pre buying or locking in good prices next fall. These great prices could fall drastically and from personal experience inputs and farm costs in general like land rent doesnt fall in tandem with commodities.
Have any guys stuck there neck out and forward priced grain in fall of 2023. I want to look into forward selling oats in the fall of 2023. At present new crop 2022 prices at 7 plus dollars a bushels I would be very interested what a 2023 price would be. Historically we are not that far past some of the worst prices during the trade war with china and if a guy can buffer against that kind of volatility , all the power to them. What do you think?

I personally wouldn’t price that far out. But nothing wrong with it. Unless inflation keeps going. Or the if the grain prices collapse, they just won’t honour the price come 2023.

I don't think any grain buyer will price grain beyond the farthest futures month. Normally, the moment you sign a future delivery contract, the buyer immediately sells futures to hedge that position. After that it does not matter to the buyer whether the market moves up or down, he's covered either way. If a grain company will let you sign contracts two years out, there can't be any futures position they can take so such a contract would doubtlessly be written to cover themselves by voiding the contract (or lowering the contract price) if prices dropped. Check the fine print very carefully.

Bullets are getting hard to come by. No 270 shells in town, brother went to Brandon yesterday and had to go to a few different places before he could find some, so got me a couple boxes. Stores told him people are coming up from the States to get them. Shot gun shells were pretty much sold right out. Store in town ordered some shells in May and still haven't got them.

I thought canola seed was running out? How come there are still ads on the radio telling you to get some seed? Believe it was Canterra I heard today. Shortages over??

I always get a chuckle out of canola seed ads on TSN hockey or football. We farmers are such a small segment of the population and those ads dont persuade me to buy that type of seed. I would rather have the discount on seed than have them spend money on that!!

No kidding, probably the least bang for their bucks advertising there, what, maybe 1% of the people viewing would be farmers, and that's likely being generous.

I am now told that Liberty will be in short supply for '22. Some guys saying they won't put seed in the ground until they have the chem on hand. Not sure what Plan B would be???

Plan B? Take the year off? Lots of potential to lose a pile of money, very little potential to make any. Would be a good year to clean some fields up and do work that never seems to get done because a shortage of time. Go pump gas and come out ahead of the game without the stress? Have a chance at some land this year but not sure what to do, not even sure about putting all current acres in this year.
