Moved off of canola to do our last 3 quarters of oats yesterday while we have a few hot days. Everything goes ok and the stars align we should wrap them up tonight. They started at 15.1 at 1:00 and were 13.4 by 3:00. Little sun and a wind does great things. Be just canola to the finish line after that - 15 quarters to chew thru.

Hopefully start beans Friday now . Would be nice if the ground dries a bit more so we are not pushing leaves or mud .

Doing soybeans today, such a joy to harvest when the fields are dry. Doing about 15BPA better than the canola this year, wish I had a lot more of them!

Yep , soybean year over year , beans doing 15-20 bushel per acre better than canola . The size of the beans are like rocks ! Longer season variety of beans is showing 20 percent higher yield . Itโs not that the canola crop was not a good crop , it was not bad ! , it just shows the benefit of having beans in a wetter year .

Was the canola not great or are the soybeans that good? Canola is below average this year, hearing that all over southern MB. The soybeans are above average but not a record crop for me. August rain and variety selection(as Oatking mentioned) are pretty much the main factors in soybean yield. On average I would say that soybeans yield a little lower than canola, but we get a better cereal crop the next year after beans and the fields are cleaner. Canola is starting to have more disease issues and continues to be plagued with fleabeetles in spring. Tight canola rotations are making those problems worse.

Second the bean land benefits ! We are doing a soybean field which is my pond quarter . If I had canola here this year it would have done next to nothing โ but soybeans is doing 40ish . Very happy on this field . Neighbour said the beans looked like dog water !!! I say meh! Iโd rather call it โ evian dog water .[โ br]Best field was 60 plus . Probably low 50 s . I agree so many factors go into weighing your crop rotation benefits . I donโt even want to think about growing peas on this pond quarter !!! Do you guys have fields where you resist putting a sensitive crop on ?

My soybeans got hammered with rain too oatking. They were ankle to knee high. And did 44.7 bushels. Third biggest soy crop in 30 years. When harvesting the canola. 30 years ago you would have said 5 bushes looking at the stand. It went 25. The genetics in the new varieties today are unbelievable. The world will never run out of food.
