SWMAN I think you're onto something with the 2 combines. Not even 3 years ago, it was much easier to go the 1 big combine scenario. I have stayed on that train for the time being doing about 4500 ac with one machine, bringing a friend in to help when he's done if I'm in a bind. BUT.... and that's a big BUT now, the cost of the 1 big machine is getting to be too much. When that single new machine is approaching 1M the economics shift pretty quickly in favour of 2 400k machines. You will get more done with the 2. I'm still stratching my head on this dilemma but could forsee a change in the next couple years if the pricing trend continues. Apparently John Deere thinks there's logic in the one expensive machine vs two. Time will tell whether that works out for them. Just the logistics of our harvest favor two smaller machines than one big one. The last crops we harvest are usually lower-yielding specialty crops which require complete clean outs between varieties. So it makes sense to just have two machines working on two different fields sometimes. We're thinking seriously of adding another machine to the fleet, just for seed alfalfa. A cheaper, older machine will do fine. It's a bit ironic that we find ourselves looking for a used machine of a vintage we just traded off a couple of years ago. Too bad we didn't keep it and just buy the new machine outright. 20/20 hindsight I guess.

Okay, Okay, Okay. I'm running for prime minister so need to hire the combining out while I fulfill my duties there...ha ha Actually I'm at the point where I really should have two machines, so probably just run two older machines. Not gonna drop 750K on another new one on same acres that's for sure! Actually have about ten guys interested already. Now I know how a dealer feels, a bunch of farmers telling me how their combine with 2-3X the hours and no tracks is worth almost as much as mine. Give me until July and I'll trade you my 2017 760tt with approximately 750 seperator hours. Just bought a new drill so I'd like to see if we get any moisture before spending any more money.

So did that 8700 sell yet ? A fair bit of interest, nobody has pulled out the checkbook yet. It's a big decision.

Hey welcome Vailcat!
Pretty extensive list of updates but I don't know specifics. I'm following the "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything" policy on things though. Personally I am going to two 700 series combines, which is the high-water mark for harvesting in my humble opinion. I'll miss my side window wipers but I'll get over it...ha ha

Have you purchased your 700 series combines yet? I have a 2013 760 for sale.

Yeah and a bunch of work done to them already. Super slow waiting for Sunnybrook parts but I believe stuff showed up after about three months!
