My 2016 duramax used maybe two jugs per oil change which was about a tank full. My 2021 duramax uses about a 1/3 more but has a bigger tank and an actual gauge. The harder you work it the more they burn also.
Fuel mileage has greatly improved since it got over 25,000km on it so we will see if def usage goes down also.

Local deere dealer also said there is a shortage of drums. They told me , some diesel pups in the States limit how much DEF they can sell. Also heard diesel pickups only use a small amount of def which a full tank is good till an oil change. I dont know if I believe that. A normal day harvesting my s680 uses a jug and a half per day. My 2020 ford 250 uses a tank of def for every 10000km or every oil change.

ON the labour front, it is too bad our local grain elevator cant find workers to do routine maintenance. They try to hire, but lately workers will take the job and work a couple days and than decide its not worth it so, back they sit on there butt. Shortage of workers is a huge problem. Help wanted signs all over the place.
Also , I am getting my farm upgraded to 600 amp under ground service. Some electrical parts have an 18 week wait. I was hoping for MB hydro and the highways to agree on an under ground cable under the highway but they were not interested. Ironically , two weeks ago a moving truck clipped my neutral wire across the highway.

Regular Macdon guards are apparently not available to order right now, had to shop at a few dealers to get enough to rebuild my two knifes on my FD75's. Seems some dealers have stock but the one I normally shop at cant order more right now.
And reading that coffee production is way down, sure enough go to store and the one I would normally get is gone, check another store and same thing. Maybe a coincidence, but weird I just saw that article and then same day see bare shelves. Generally grocery stores seem stocked up decent, just certain things are gone.

Seems so random what comes in short supply. Today stopped at the pharmacy for some children’s Tylenol, they had a sign up limiting people to only one at a time, that was for all children’s pain relief items, yet the adult shelves were right full, not sure if there is really any difference in ingredients between the two? My DEF still hasn’t showed up that was supposed to be here mid week.

I am running one of my combines with a used slip clutch which is in better shape than the one we took off. It seems my dealer is having a hard time tracking down the sprocket to fit the new updated slip clutch.. Pretty important part to not have on hand.

We could be looking at coming shortages from BASF (Germany) and chemicals coming from that company. They use 4% of Germany's total gas!! A good synopsis of Germany's total use of imported energy.

The shortages might be the least of our worries if the US continues to fly around and bomb stuff like that pipeline. Seems NATO is doing it's best to start WW3.
But yeah Germany is a huge manufacturing nation and this will undoubtedly cause major problems going forward. I thought I read Corteva is also having issues, and these chemical producers supply a lot of different industries, so likely to have a snowball effect.

Got a call yesterday from BASF wanting to know my cropping plans for next year. Was busy so I told him to call back later. Thinking about all the shortages how much information should we give to these guys? If we don't tell them what we plan to grow will we be able to get the seed, chem, fertilizer... that we need when we need it? Or does everything average out from year to year and they are just trying to increase efficiency by making just enough product to meet demand?

Free market economy says the manufacture uses their best guess. Because only they know their cost of production and expenses to generate a profit and stay in operation. And so they need to adjust on their end to sell product and stay in business. What the purchaser intends to do should have nothing to do with it since there is zero chance you will automatically be buying all your needs from one particular source.
If I tell a company I am seeding all wheat and also chemfallow 20% of my land, how does that effect in any way what the sales are for that company. Now, if their pricing is 20% lower than any other competitors than they have a good chance of selling to me. If they are 20% higher than anyone else then it is unlikely I will be buying and so it really does not matter what my intentions are if their sales to me is $0.
The government likes to ask seeding intentions and such. Food security and all that. But government doesn't control any sales so exactly why are they interested. All sales of mine are done via private business, the government has not told any grain company they can't buy or sell grain because government surveys say seeding intentions are a concern. It doesn't happen. So why does the government ask.
Probably in all this a guy starts thinking some things don't add up.

Had a bit of money burning a hole in my pocket so open up a few regular equipment listings I normally look at. It is surprising a lot of latter model equipment is all snagged. Most equipment available is 1 or 3 years old and priced thru the roof! All good used equipment seems to be long gone. Recently snagged a 9520r tractor and this was not listed on the web. My sales rep gave me first shot at it for being a loyal deere customer. Must be a lot of those deals going on. My trade didnt even hit the dealer lot. Farmer came and picked it up from my yard. Seems similar to back room land deals now.
Any body hear if gps equipment is improving in availability.?
