Shortages!

Yeah! Finally got all the parts I was waiting for, should be ready for harvest now. The one part we were waiting for was from AgWest, I might have been in a few days ago, but in their typical fashion, they have yet to ever call when the parts show up, I called and talked to someone in some other store, because in their mind it’s best to just forward your call to another branch when your local phone line is busy, and he said that the part was in and someone should have called. You think so? I hate the way they do that, often end up talking to several different people having to explain over and over what you need because you get a different store every time.
Another shortage. Local ER is closed for the weekend and most of next week. No doctors wanting to work and no nurses. I guess going to work is just an option now. I thought our healthcare system would be back to full bore now that covid is over , because it was working so well until covid overwhelmed it 🤷♂️

Frustrating when they say they will phone when part is in and never do. We are lucky that we have the parts guys cell number and shoot them a text to ask a quick question about a part or a part number and if they have it. They prefer it actually as it takes less time then talking on the phone….. and they say they like us so we get answers fairly quick. Haha.

I often forget how much it helps to live close to a parts warehouse. That ujoint I needed for the incline auger was not in stock at the dealership but 10 were available in the warehouse about 1 km away. Parts guy at dealer says he can get it sometime Sunday depending on when a driver/courier can get it to the dealership or else I can pick it up at the warehouse and should be ready for pu in about 3 hours. So I naturally took the option to remove some uncertainty from the scenario and had my sister pop over and grab it. A box on the side of the building you look in and find your order and off home you go. Things arriving at the dealer can sometimes get lost, or not accounted for when they come in or get the old "we never checked what showed up 2 hours ago as of yet so maybe it is here, maybe not" line.

Noticing a real problem with Macdon parts this fall. My normal dealer is telling me several items unavailable and some have had to come from SK or I have been able to call around to other dealers to scavenge what's around. One dealer said they had someone else machining some of the more basic shafts and such instead because no supply available. This could be the first time I have appreciated the huge dealer networks because the parts guy can say if there is one in another one of their stores an hour or two away!
Went to do some pro-tilling this morning and one of my 800 tires on the 4WD was flat and had a cut in it. Crossed my fingers and called tire shop and they had one! Trelleborg TM900 it was, glad it wasn't a Michelin.
Been waiting forever for a handheld UHF radio as mine is on it's last breath, anyone know who might have such a thing? Prairie Mobile Communications doesn't seem to be getting any.

I have two almost brand new ones I could sell you. I dont use the hand held ones anymore. My workers are french men so a LOT OF TIMES I cant under stand the broken english on those radios.
Two years ago we were changing fields and I said to one worker wait for emmanual before you move. Well , he thought i said the :manual:. When we got going on the other quarter I was frustrated because the other combine was no where in sight!!!!lol
My daughters speak french because they go to french emersion school so they help out a lot on the communication.

Anyone having issues getting DEF? At least in drums, can get it in jugs it seems. Can’t get a drum until the middle of next week from the usual place we get it. Maybe most people use jugs or totes? I don’t feel like using all those jugs and don’t use enough in a year to get a tote, combine is the only thing we have that uses it, last combine used not quite two drums in a season.

What’s this DEF stuff you talk about. Our combine has been on 96% since we got it.

Yes , those jugs are very annoying and I dont like the little screw on hose that comes with them. I must have at least twenty of those silly black thingys inside my def tank. Lots of times the screw on plastic hose falls off and you spill all that cancer causing crap on you. yeah real brainy the people who thought all this stuff up. A drum with a small pump and long hose to reach the combine tank is a good idea kevlar. Problem is all my def equipment is deleted except my s680. Deere heavily discourages that practice and says the temperature needed to burn off the crap inside the motor is more consistant or works better than a farm semi which does not operate at a constant rpm all day.
I cant remember if I mentioned it earlier but I was shocked to hear how actual short many retailers were short of liberty. My neighbours field of canola got infested with weeds as a result of the first application not applied properly and since no liberty was allowed to be used twice he had to watch his quarter of canola turn into a huge mess. I cant imagine how that must have felt.

I know some emissions related components are hard to get for combines and dealers have been recommending alternative methods of fixing the problems. Couple parts were back ordered 6-8 months is what they were told

I get my DEF from the local co-op. They have it in bulk and I just fill my barrels.

I don’t know of anyone locally who has it in bulk. A friend manages the local Coop bulk fuel and I asked him about it awhile ago, he said they weren’t going to get it in because the cost to put it in was so much and there was no money in it, would have taken forever just to recoup their costs. They seemed to figure DEF would be short lived, I hope so.

Guess I’m wrong, just came to Brandon and noticed the Coop cardlock on the north side appears to have a DEF pump.

For the BULK DEF side of things, it was a pretty costly install, so had some pretty steep ROI so I could definitely see a lot of Cardlocks not able to justify it. It'd be generally low volume of usage back when I was involved more with Coop, so the continual heating of the tank (as I think they have to keep it over 4°C, special pump(s), and in some cases now you are heating a cardlock site that might not have natural gas on site, so it could be pretty costly.
It is possible to have it bulk, but it was costly to upkeep that some Coops would probably find selling drums would be much easier and cost-effective than the upkeep on bulk DEF.

Local deere dealer also said there is a shortage of drums. They told me , some diesel pumps stations in the States limit how much DEF they can sell. Also heard diesel pickups only use a small amount of def which a full tank is good till an oil change. I dont know if I believe that.
A normal day harvesting my s680 uses a jug and a half per day.
