Started May 4th with barley on some land that slopes into coulee pretty well. A few small showers delayed a day here and a day there but barley is all done and got one quarter of wheat in before the rain. Roughly 4.4” over two days. We weren’t dry before the rain and we definitely aren’t dry now. Forecast looks favorable for some decent drying in coming days. Should have some time to get sprayer out ahead of seeder now and then hopefully get right back to seeding in a week or so. Should have some decent subsoil moisture to work with now for crops so can’t complain about getting some good rain.

five days of oat seeding done! ahhhh! sore eyes and itchy legs are in the rear view mirror. I know it is may 15 but, it still feels early to be seeding canola. Temperatures feels right... Nice germination Gary! Is that barley. Yep. And the temperature is definitely right here. By the feel of it there's no damaging frost for the rest of May and if it freezes first week of June a bigger plant might handle it better than a seedling.

Our first oats are up and out of the ground. They look nice so far.
We have been on canola for 4 days now. Can’t go by the date on the calendar have to go by conditions. Should finish canola around home tomorrow then move to our north land. Have had a slow last few days with a few smaller fields and some moves along with today being Mother’s Day we shut down early. Had some maintenance to do on the drill/tank/tractor this morning also. Another good week and we should be done.

Finished seeding here on Saturday, the 13th of May. That is earlier than average. Had spotty showers/thunderstorms here beginning of last week. We got about 1/2". Could definitely use some more rain now, especially to get these fires under control. A lot of the wheat is up and looking quite nice. The warm windy weather is drying things out quick here. Because of the warm weather, the trees turned green super quick this year. About a week from budding to full leaf!

peas will be soon to pop through any day i had a gut feeling there would be one more frost yet, amazing today was +27 at 9 am and outta the tractor at 11pm it was cold

Finished putting Edge down last night so hook up drill and start seeding wheat sometime late today if I get everything organized and all goes well today. Did the burnoff already for wheat. Should be about 14 days to finish seeding if all goes well. A week a head of last year so far. Didnt run into any water saturated sloppy areas like last week so frost layer is out of the way.

Finished up seeding last night at about 9:30. First seeded barley was up on Sunday. Couple pot holes I might try and seed yet but they still have water in them. All burn off spraying is done. Time to clean up the trucks, do a bit of servicing and maybe head to the lake on the weekend and open the cabin and relax for a day or 2.

One improvement I would like to make next year is to be able to see the nh3 gauge on my tank. I usually mark down approximate acres but wondered what other guys do to see on the go nh3 liquid levels in the tank. I can’t see the gauge on the tank on my camera. Must be a better way!
