Looking like we're going to be starting within the next couple days here. Gonna keep it simple this year. Barley and canola.

Been constant showers in my part of the world this spring, plus lots of moisture from snow melt. With 3.5" rain last couple days starting date is no where insight yet.

A lot of planting here the last 7-10 days. Dry and cool. Crop is going in the ground and doing nothing, it's in moisture but too cold to germinate. Some guy's are holding off for a warm up. I've got more confidence it will warm up then I do off it staying dry. Soil conditions are near optimal.
I think it will be a struggle this year. I'm betting we bake in June/July. Definitely not off to an ideal start.

Got the drill hooked up to the tank and the NH3 cart today and made sure everything worked. Only took a few hours to get all the electrical gremlins out of it. Hopefully start putting seeds in the ground in the next couple of days.
Plan is start on oats cause we have lots of them to seed……

I think oats may be the surprise crop come fall if the west is dry. At barely four bucks a bushel its not keeping pace with wheat in returns per acre. I was lucky to sell 100 bushels an acre on half my farm for 6 bucks a bushel last october but that may end up a poor price! who knows, but if price stays like it is now acres should be down I would expect. Still a few days away from seeding. Getting closer but the drains still have water in them and anywhere a shelter belt exists we have snow banks still. I still need a day to get ready!

Just finished up harvest 2022 two days ago. Never got a nice enough dry stretch through the winter to get it baled up. Ended up with over 500 bales from it so already have enough feed for next winter. Planting corn in it today.

Made the 35 mile drive to Regina yesterday and no seeds in the ground yet. Some land harrowed, sprayer ruts in one field seen, one seeding outfit parked at an approach but hadn't made a pass yet.
Plan to test out the sprayer today with water and make sure everything works then load some Edge in the air cart and try a few acres to see how it goes. Fields still fairly wet with sloppy spots as frost still coming out. Sloughs are showing trash lines on edges, and saw some wet spots on the grid road where frost/moisture is coming up.

We got all the gluten berries in the ground today. Gonna move on to some beer seeds now. Had a small delay yesterday when the Park brake solenoid decided to quit working. Dad said tractor came to an abrupt stop. Glad it was in the field and not on the road when it happened. Parts were 15 minutes away so didn’t take too long to fix once the problem was diagnosed. Local new Holland dealer didn’t have it would have had to go to the other store in PA and hour away. Phoned case and they had it.
Soil temp was 11° at 3” depth was surprised it was that high.

No go here yet. Last weeks rain ended up at 5 inches. Tried cultivator today, try again in a couple more days. Damn clay. Also the smoke from fires in the west are making for dull hazy skies which is not helping with drying. Friend from just north of Toronto sent a pic this evening, surprisingly thick there.

Got brothers tractor and drill moved to one of our dryer fields to start putting on fertilizer. The usual opening day jitters. Nothing worse than trying to get everything working when you’re not right at home. Might get some seed in the ground tomorrow, but not highly likely, have 3 separate commitments tomorrow and a few other things on the go as well. See lightning outside right now so will see what that brings. Still plenty wet right around home, still some snowbanks as well.
