Well , I got a more local quote for a 60 by 130 by 20 high pole shed with a 50 foot by fold door , and a 40 foot sliding door and two man doors . Price quote was 233 000 . I thought prices came down by now a bit? We built a shed in 2022 and i wasn't happy about the price back then but blamed Covid, but your quote seems to be even higher. What's going on? Did you get a quote from a company like Goodon? We used a local builder and were very pleased. Good guy, good crew, but they only want to build locally.

I thought they should be coming down more as well, lumber is down 60% from covid and metal is down some as well. Labour is likely up some but not that much. Guess it's like anything, nobody wants to sell something for less than they could have gotten yesterday, especially if they don't have to.

The couple quotes i got from the more known builders for a 60x120x20 with 2 40’ diamond doors were in around the 180+ tax built.

That seems outrageous for a week and a half build time . I had a similar quote last year around the 160000 mark . Oh well at least I feel I gave my local supplier a chance

Prairie Post Frame did our cold storage and were one of the cheapest ones at that time. AFAB did our heated shop about 12 years ago, they were cheaper at that time. Lots of companies out there, definitely shop around but also do some research, there used to be some pretty sketchy ones years ago but haven’t heard of any recently.

any other company suggestions . i am starting to think my mountain retreat in Canmore is a better bang for the buck !!! You might give Candlewood Homes in Halbstadt a call. They have built multiple shops in our area, and do a good job. They are fairly busy now though, for what that's worth.

The labour is a surprise , but perhaps that is a normal quote , they need to pay for their drilling equipment and what not . The door package is a lot . I doubt bin crews make that kind of money kevlar !

I doubt bin crews make that kind of money kevlar ! On your list it mentions cement and rebar, those are two items that have not been a part of a so called traditional pole shed and makes me wonder if there is more material and complexity to the style of foundation this company quoted vs what another pole shed company would typically build ?. Also what is the pole spacing and rafter spacing they quoted ?. Answers to these questions "might" help answer some of the labour costs that seems shockingly high in my mind as well.

My 56 x 120 x18 is $76k labour and I did the ground work to make ready to put posts in. So $12 sq/ft which is a little high perhaps. I watch the forums like Ag Talk and pretty common to see $10 sq/ft mentioned there. Details matter like door installation and methods used to install posts when comparing builds so hard to say which price is out of line. I have to admit these guys spent a lot of time here this winter. Not 14 hour days but lots of 8 hour days. Quote for building with two bifold was $86,000 but bill is showing $100,000 so last week mentioned that to the hardware store as I think they entered the 28 x 18 bifold twice so have to get that sorted out yet.
Oatking says 4 ft rafter spacing so likely 4 ft post spacing. I had a price option for 2 ft rafter spacing and that added something like $12k for material alone. Went with the 4 ft option.
Lumber had come down from time quoted to time stuff showed up on site but such things won't be factored in immediately in any quotes. I would think any builder would need to see prices down for say 6 months before accepting that as the new level of pricing. Much easier to update prices in a falling market if quote isn't accepted that week.

Renewed my farm insurance today and the replacement cost of these buildings is sure driving up the insurance bill. Vicious cycle it is!

How bad was the jump percentage wise? I believe the agent said it's a 6% inflation adjustment annually unless we were to determine otherwise. Currently about $714 for insurance on a 60x120x20 pole shed at a replacement cost of just over 155K. Not sure if that's good bad or otherwise, but with multiple buildings/bins/grain handling and all the equipment it adds up. Not sure I have made a claim in over 20 years of any sort so a guy starts to wonder if it would be better to just bank the money? I guess this is why insurance companies are a huge profit center...

I know , I have ten thousand deductible and I ask my insurance agent for a quote on twenty thousand deductible . My thinking is when disaster strikes , it has too be a big event . Unfortunately , the insurance companies don’t give much of any incentive over 5 thousand . Pisses me off . My insurance is about 14 grand a year . That includes two homes .
I don’t want to cancel my insurance but what are some ideas to lower the bill ? Raising deductible is tapped out for me . Have you guys lowered the value of equipment and buildings . I have two claims in 26 years . Last year was 29000 for a torn track off my grain cart and in 2005 I had 35 thousand in bin damage . I didn’t even think of putting a claim in for my track ! What do you guys do ?
