Headed to town today to pick up some parts and when I turned in the lane I noticed a hole in the middle. Turns out the culvert rotted out. So off to the rm yard to grab a couple culvert pieces to install this evening as we have grain going out tomorrow and didn’t really want the truck to fall through. the old culvert had used up its lifespan.

Most of the rest of our ground is flat.
Big wooden trestle bridge just north of there that spans the valley. Used to be a ski hill to the south of that field also.

Was supposed to be sunny and nice today but of course it wasn’t, I was going to do a few things on some equipment but it wasn’t really nice enough for that so instead took my kids target shooting. My son shot a 22 for the first time and on his first shot hit the target. He seems to like it. My daughter likes shooting the 22 and has a bit for a few years now, she’s a pretty good shot with it. I bought my first shotgun a couple weeks ago and took it as well, first time I’ve ever shot a shotgun. I even convinced my daughter to try it. She says her shoulder is a bit sore now, see how it feels in the morning. I couldn’t get either of them to take a rip out of the 270, it’s got a bit more kick to it.

What shotshells are you using, something with a light load of lead ( ok so haven't bought any for years so probably can't get lead anymore ) and light load of powder, or are you using something with a higher load of lead and powder as depending on how fancy the internals of the shotshell are that can make quite a difference to the kick. I assume your shotgun can accept slugs, get yourself a box of either 1 ounce or 1 1/4 ounce and do some "target practice" with it and let me know if you feel that on your shoulder after a few shots.

What's really fun is slipping a 3.5" shell in while skeet shooting and offering your buddy to let him test your gun lol. But for introducing new people I have found its not a good idea to see how much they can handle. Just 22 for a while is a good start. A rifle or shotgun will kick way harder on an inexperienced shooter that will probably not be holding it right, and might develop a flinch that takes a while to unlearn
