Most exciting today was blowing snow for an hour, so not much.
Interesting thing about hot women showing up at work is it is not necessarily a rare thing. Guys at our shop in Regina had a couple young gals show up early evening in the summer while working overtime and had the big shop door open. Asking for directions or something. Of course young guys were more than happy to invite them in and show them around. The down side to that is you have invited them in and showed them around, and these gals have an idea of what they are looking at. So if they see stuff that would make for an easy target and easy resale later on, then the shop just may be a candidate for a late night visit. Break ins are actually not often that random, usually there is some preliminary work done.

Maybe a fitting topic for when it is -35c, love my wood burning fireplace. Nice thing about being strictly grain farm is I don't have to feed animals and now that I don't work on job sites, no more cold clothes, cold tools, cold equipment, and just being cold. Working out of the back of a 1/2 ton in a substation in the middle of the prairies is just cold. It's a 4.0 cu ft BIS Tradition which goes by other names/manufacturers. Rated for 80,000btu and i am sure it will do that. Heats the main and upper floor easily with just a log or two every couple hours. Keep it going 24 hrs a day when it is cold like this and need to shut down for about 12 hours every 3 days or so to let ashes cool and clean them out. A wood fireplace was one of the main design elements of the house. Figured I would mention it because I really like my fireplace, and anyone who comes over likes it, and the most often comment is "I wish I had one", yet I never see anyone putting them in their homes. It's always gas. I can understand it's a little more difficult in the city to get firewood but I bought a house in Regina that had a fresh air fireplace and I did what every other person would do - used the phone and had a guy drop a load of birch on the driveway. These high efficiency stoves like I have now are nothing like the fresh air fireplace of days gone by like I had in Regina. This one is at least double the efficiency plus isn't like a deep freeze next to it when not in use. -35 last night and kept upper floors at 21 to 22c all through the night. The infloor heat in basement with its own thermost looked after itself running via boiler as normal.
View from my couch this morning

A family friend is into cat rescues. She talked the wife into getting some special pet grass because the two cats in the house are eating the plants. Turns out the special pet grass is gmo free, no wheat gluten, organic wheat seed.

Lol My daughter got a pet store gift card for Christmas one year so she bought some "grass" seeds. $5 for a hundred grams or so. Turned out to be an oat/barley mix. She gets her seeds from me now, ha.

Something interesting happened yesterday. Have a little diesel forklift that's never been a great winter machine. We've been keeping it in the heated shop lately and it starts and runs well for the occasional trip across the yard. Yesterday we were using it outside and suddenly it started spewing engine oil everywhere. Out the dip stick. Quite a lot of oil. Because it was so cold, the stop cable froze up so we couldn't easily shut it down either. Limped it back towards the shop and it sputtered and died. Was pretty sure it had seized. But we got lucky. Turns out the reason it was spewing oil is that the crank case breather filter was mostly plugged and iced up. And at the same time a fuel line or filter must have blocked with ice, shutting down the engine which completely saved it. Probably the cold temperatures, which kept the engine quite cool even after running an hour, may have helped stave off some damage. We warmed it back up, topped off the oil, cleaned the breather filter, and it started back up. Seems to be running normally again. We'll keep an eye on the oil in case it starts burning oil. But I think we avoided disaster there, just barely. From now on we'll not run it outside in temperatures below -15 or so.

I'm gonna guess under normal conditions this thing is pumping out a fair amount of blowby thru the breather? Def in cold temps if the engine is running cold the breather system will freeze up from condensation. Tired engines never like the cold lol

Yesterday was the first day this week where the temperature made it above minus 30, actually made it all the way up to minus 22. Had several loads of canola to ship and luckily the truckers were accommodating, 😁.

Yup, weather warms and interesting things happen. So on my usual patrol and on my way to feed cows I see a vehicle slowly going down the road towards my place. So of course I am going to stop him. Get a bit closer and its an RCMP. Ok, something is up definitely going to stop him. Pull up along side of each other and begin talking through the windows. He asks where I am going and I tell him I am doing my patrol and off to feed the cows. Confused he asked what do you mean patrol? I said myself and a few other neighbors do regular patrols since the RCMP is never out here. SOrt of satisfied with my answer he asks if I have been 3 miles to the west. I said not today. He replies I am looking for a blue chevy. Now I am thinking oh great, guess what I am driving lol. Good thing I was quick on the ball. Immediately told him you are looking for a 96 or earlier, white hood, and a 6" lift running 31 or 33 inch rubber. Now his interest is really peaked. He asked how do you know this? I said there is a bunch of us looking for this guy, he is driving through fields, old yard sites, and other places he doesn't belong. He goes, yeah that is the complaint I got from a guy to the west. Good thing I never mentioned what is going to happen to the guy if we catch him. Needless to say he did finailly ask for my steering papers and if I knew my license number. Told him no, but it is on the back bumper covered in snow if he wishes to clean it and look. He goes nah, your all good.

So was laying in bed just after 6 AM watching Corner Gas when the bedroom window lite up the room even thru the heavy curtains...just the way things positioned tv up by ceiling just past the window, I was like WTF was that, was a quick shot of light you get like a set of headlites if someone was turning around or such. Was enough I was out of bed walking around upstairs looking and listening out the windows all around, but nothing out of ordinary, made no sense, been windy all nite and they had called for chance of thunderstorms, figured must have been a lightning flash...apparently not lol

Meteor? I saw it too when I was waiting at the binyard for a trucker to come for oats. And I'm a long way from you. Edit: Ha, I guess I replied before your link loaded,😁

Maybe the apocalypse is coming! I saw one almost exactly like that one in the video a few nights ago. It went from south to north just east of my house. I was walking back from the shop and seen it, had a long green and blue tail, and chunks breaking off of it then just as it got almost out of sight it had a bunch of pieces break off, I guess as it entered the atmosphere. Coolest thing I have ever seen. Then yesterday my brother was out snowmobiling before supper and said he seen one, and it was still daylight. Must be in some kind of meteor shower?

I pull into the yard last night from hauling grain with a full truck. My wife had called and said she got stuck in the yard. The kids helped her get out. I saw tracks through the snow. Figured that is were she got stuck and I will make it easy. It was dark. It was deep. It was not the drift the she got stuck in. Those were side x side tracks from the kids driving over it. The 95E cat didn't pull it out and I broke a 4" strap. I went inside before it got very expensive. Now to dig and melt with a hot pressure washer. It was 40degF then. 30degF this morning. Hopeis melts quickly with hot water. Hope I didn't break anything. This was stupid! And interesting. Wrecks a day of hauling for me today.

My son saw the same meteor going to work, over the Cargill crush plant. That same day I took a tumble over a hopperbin brace, hurt shoulder and cracked rib or ribs!
