Lucked out yesterday, found a "83 Bravo yesterday for the kids, ok shape. Needs a few tweaks but nothing major. Need to clean the carb again, still not running just right, was pretty dirty must have missed something. Can't believe how nuts it is to find a small machine for kids. Going to be harder when these ones wear out, nobody makes a small machine anymore. Actually yamacat makes a smaller one a sx venom . They call it about 7/8 size and has a 400cc engine. They also make a snow scoot again with a 200cc. No idea what the price of them are new. With the way used sleds are priced this year I might order a new 550 Polaris for next year. Pretty much the same price as a “low” mile used one that runs good but is missing a couple lugs seat is torn and has a few scratches and a bent bumper. Have to admit, haven't been following the new machines lately, lost interest in Yamaha when they went to the 4 strokes. I had a 700 Viper that I traded off on a new, first year 4 stroke Phazer. I can't think of one thing I liked about that machine. Dad has had several 4 stroke machines, they have all been very reliable, I just find them too heavy for the riding I do. These smaller machines might be a better fit for me, but the price not so much! Just a couple quick looks, the new 400 venom starts at close to $12,000. The new body styles don't do a lot for me either, can't tell one machine from the other no matter what make, I used to like it when each manufacturer had several different models and none of them looked the same.

That’s getting a little too much for a small sled. The 550Rmk Polaris Can be had for around 7000. Friend has one for his kid and says it’s perfect for him.

There isn't much out there for small sleds. Heck, it's getting harder to find a 600 in the good sleds. Lots of them are offered with the 800 and that's it for choices. If you want the premium shocks and suspension then you are taking home an 800, end of story. Just find that curious. Have a couple 600 x 144" here and I like riding them. In the mountains the extra displacement is nice, but flat landing a 600 is fine. But years ago, speaking of the Polaris line, they started building the 600 and 800 from the same block so there was no more weight advantage with the 600. Tried to find a used 600 x 144" a couple years ago and finally gave up and bought a 800 x 144" assault used.
So the Polaris 550 is the small seld out there these days. Skidoo was building the freestyle a few years ago, it was a pretty much full sized sled with a 340 or 400. Looked on their site this morning and it's not offered anymore, looks like the 600 is the smallest engine unless I am missing something.
Manufacturers will build a 120cc for 6-8 year olds then expect the next level up to be a 600cc sled as kids age. Seems odd, but I guess they offer what sells.

Yeah, we've noticed over the last few years its been tough to get a decent 600. We have two 800s that can be used, but just a bit too much for them for us to be comfortable with. Heck, the kids fight over the little 340 that might be a bit older than me than ride the big ones. Way less weight so they can turn on a dime compared to the workout on the 800s. Not so spooked with it at least.
Might have been the last few crappy years we've been having sledding out in the prairies (at least by home), so most of what they might have been selling was getting into the mountain stuff, so 800 might be the minimum you'd be going with.
That being said, had a friend of a friend looking to sell off 2 400s (not really well kept, so price was lower than you'd expect in the current market), but couldn't justify it because the kids are gunna grow into a 600-800 in the blink of an eye, so dont wanna pin ourselves down to 400s as we'll typically hold onto sleds for a long time.

You guys need some livestock to keep you occupied lol. Damn if the prices of these old sleds is right, I better get my old 440 everest and 500 everest up and going. I would even part with my 500 indy too if the price was right.

From what I've seen, you would likely get as much or more for your everests than your Indy. I thought about getting a newer 500 but it's just too much sled for a 7 and 9 year old to handle. The relic derbies have really cranked up the prices on older sleds too, there are old things that have been dragged out of the bush and don't even run and guys are wanting a thousand bucks. Now whether or not they get that, I don't know, but they do sell.

A couple 340 TNT's in Winnipeg, not as nice as yours, $1200. Bet you could get close to 2000 for yours with it's history. Your kids don't want to ride it?

Actually I bought it couple years ago from the second owner. kids like driving it but want something a little bigger now. Actually it lost spark on the mag side this year so I’m working on that right now. I had a 340 Olympic growing up that I spent a lot of time on so this was kinda the same sled is one reason I bought it.

You guys think that those older sleds are priced nuts, those old twin track Alpines have been in the stupid sphere for last several years, been wanting to get one but no way I'm paying what some think they're worth.
That Bravo Kevlar mentioned, if I remember correctly, thats a 250 free air Yammy? If so, they were a good little sled. Another light one was the Skidoo Elan I think it was called.
I didn't realize the track was ripped, but few years ago I picked up a Deere Trailfire 440, bit older than the one I had back in the early 80s, I had the '81 LX model, it got cooked in that fire while I was moving twenty years ago, still had all the manuals and some parts and pieces, so when I saw this old one at a sale for $50 I brought it home. Wasn't siezed or anything, but I just never had time to do anything with it. Still sitting covered up on top of a pile of lumber lol. I do have some parts for them and all the tech and performance manuals too. Maybe someone out there wants that stuff more than me lol as I would rather get one of them old Alpines just for what I would use and need it for.

Ya they are a 250, quite reliable, which is why they are hard to come by, in high demand. Those alpines have always been expensive around here. You might want to look for a Yamaha VK 540 if you are looking for a workhorse. A friend of dads had one years ago, there was nothing that thing wouldn't go through, and trust me, he went everywhere with it! Had to ride with him a few times, was maybe 10-11 years old, I was terrified. Not a lot of them around though.

Elans and Bravo's bring really good money as around here the trappers want them for in the bush. Especially if they are a long track version.

Made about 60 miles today conditions were great up along the river fields were smooth and could zip along at 70-80mph no problems if we wanted. Here is a picture of the sask river forks where the north and south combine

could zip along at 70-80mph no problems if we wanted Maaaan, I'm not even that old and I feel like my days of 70mph+ are gone. lol Not sure when the fear got put in me, but seems the times I'd go for 90mph on the flattest field or lake are long past. Nice view. Might have to get out to that neck of the woods on of these days to sled some trails.
