Yeah but no oil money here. I think having a whiter surface would help with melting in the sun, I might try mixing some water based white paint into one of my floods. Also priced a new 3pt sweeper through Westward and it was like 6K! I think having a sweeper behind the loader would speed up snow clearing immensely. Been a good winter so far, had lots of ice time lately and it is as good as our local rink ever was, just have to go when the wind is down.

Only a bit of oil money in that area. More 60bu+ lentil crops for a few years.
As long as the ice is usable and kids have fun doesn’t really matter what it looks like. At our curling(skating) ice the one family that’s using it brought their home made Zamboni to give it a hot flood and it made the ice a lot nicer.

Back at my old farm, community league had a rink across the road and I sort of volunteered I guess you'd call it to do most the work with it. Two things I found that made for shitty ice...seemed you were dammed one way or the other, depended on the weather. With thick ice, it seemed early on in winter before the ground was froze a few feet or more, there would be heaving. With thin ice with black dirt underneath it would acutally melt between the ground and ice, you could jump up and down and see bubbles and more moving around lol. As long as didn't get too warm it seemed to hold up. I found it was best to flood it regularly with lessor amounts of water than lots at once. Used a fire nozzle and it got boring pretty fast lol. Also they supplied a 48 blower on a garden tractor and a walk behind 4 foot Ariens sweeper. Always swept it before flooding it and found the sweeper if ground speed was kept down, did a halfassed job of sort of polishing the ice, worked best when it was about zero F, when really cold or high humidity, seemed it left crystals behind, you could just tell by walking in your boots, it wasn't as slippery as when you did it and it was warmer. Keep in mind this was almost 35 years ago now, damm thinking back now I feel old lol

I'm thinking there must be a lot of people getting their kids into snowmobiling this winter. I have been trying for a few months to get a small 250cc or 340 even for my kids as they are getting big enough to start poking around on one. Literally nothing within an hour of home, most are 3+ hours away and sell almost instantly. Thought I had one last week from Winnipeg, but the guy phoned about 2 minutes before we left the house and said people were offering more than he was asking, I never bothered to drive for 3 hours only to have him jack the price up when I got there. Can find a lot of decent 500-700cc machines out there in better shape for less $$$ than guys are wanting for a beat up '81 Bravo. Kids might have to settle for riding in a sleigh behind their dad.
Got the fish shack on the lake a week ago, snowmobile is ready to go, have enough snow finally to poke around on, snowshoes are ready, got the rust off the skates, and have a few mile under my belt now on my fat bike. Not sure when I'm going to find enough time to do any work.

Used sleds are kinda high priced right now. I’ve been looking for my kids also. I will likely wait till next year when prices go down. Or buy a new 550 fan for less then guys are asking for used. They have fun getting pulled behind mine on a tube. They say it’s way better then the sleigh we used to use.

View Attachment Seeing that tube being pulled reminds me of the days almost 40 years back when my brother and I pulled a tube behind dad's yard tractor in winter. A long rope, 90 degree corners, as much speed as possible with strategically place large mounds of snow at the corners....... Man, can still almost feel the stars we saw from time to time smashing our heads on frozen ground. Almost surprised our parents allowed it. Maybe that accounts for my forgetfulness.

Yeah cleancut we are paying for all those hard landings now, I know for sure I am. AB I'm not sure how many liters he should safely lift with that tractor, maybe it only gets lifted that high at the end. I do like the fact he can close the valve and pause the operation, that's the one thing I want to integrate into my design yet. My pond big enough to take the big tractor out now, made an additional skating loop as well as the rink. With the amazing weather it's getting a fair bit of action. 8-)

Not anything rec related, well I did get a good laugh watching the vid lol, didn't know where else to really put this, figured most would see it here and get a good laugh. Enjoy. Gotta admit, listening to the guys wife having greif calling the cops was almost as funny as watching the dipshit try to get his car off the snow bank lol

Lucked out yesterday, found a "83 Bravo yesterday for the kids, ok shape. Needs a few tweaks but nothing major. Need to clean the carb again, still not running just right, was pretty dirty must have missed something. Can't believe how nuts it is to find a small machine for kids. Going to be harder when these ones wear out, nobody makes a small machine anymore.

They also make a snow scoot again with a 200cc. No idea what the price of them are new. With the way used sleds are priced this year I might order a new 550 Polaris for next year. Pretty much the same price as a “low” mile used one that runs good but is missing a couple lugs seat is torn and has a few scratches and a bent bumper.

My niece bought a Snow Scoot for her children this christmas although I've not seen it yet due to all the crap that developed and no family gathering etc but anyway I could be off on the price but I thought it was said they are somewhere between 5500.00 and 6000.00 which of course is way high compared to what one could get for a machine many years ago in an adult size. They wouldn't compared to real sled for performance or going through snow and not meant for adult weights and not supposed to pull anything behind them as the driveline just isn't meant for that. Apparently their kids are enjoying it though as the ones using it mostly are only 8 years old. The reason such a small unit was bought is because the kids are clueless, never been around anything like that before and don't have any common sense at all so a larger machine would have been dangerous to them and others in their hands.

I think we may find that sled prices drop back to more normal levels next year. That is if the Covid thing becomes a memory. There are lots of people in our small town that haven't been on sleds for 40 years buying them this year. Cant go south so the snowbirds are looking for something to do. Then you have family's with no hockey or club sports with a bunch of free weekends now and are buying also. It is a sellers market around here, sleds that were selling for 4000, (or are only worth 4k), are selling now for 7500-8000. ones worth 9 the guys are asking 12,500 and getting it from what I hear. If we get recreation back and the boarders open I think there might just be a glut of sleds next fall up for grabs. But that doesn't help people looking now.
