Got a little shot of rain, not much yet, still raining a bit, some good lightning and thunder, under a storm watch for high winds and hail, hope that misses us. See Virden had a tornado and the STARS helicopter was called out, heard rumors that someone was killed, hope that it's just a rumor.

No kidding about the rumor. Just received another inch and a tenth. It was finally starting to dry and the coming forecast looks like showery weather after the weekend. If this is a prelude to harvest....

If this is a prelude to harvest.... That sucks. Just under half inch here in last 24 hours, was just on the western edge of that whole system as it moved north. Drying up here too, surprising where a guy can drive again. Got my horsey folks hay square bales all done, stacked and tarped no rain, and even got a fair bit of some nice hay rolled up with nothing more than a couple light showers. Had to flip it because so much ground moisture, so that made for a bit slower baling. I need to figure out how to breed a NH pickup on to those Claas softcore balers of mine lol. Ground solid enough now gotta get going on silage, one of my better hayfields and I sure don't want to rut things up with the hydump, no need to worry about truck tracks as I dump directly into a pile, bout the only way a one man crew can get a respectable tonnage a day done, be a few hard days, but I can catch up on things once thats out of my way. Still quite a bit of grass hay and even one other field of alfalfa to cut and bale yet too. One thing I have noticed, is not only is there a lot of growth due to water, but first year in a long time I haven't seen one, not a single grasshopper yet. Saw the first wasp of the year just today and not one hornet yet either. Lots of bumble bees though which is good, don't mind them at all.

The people that lived in the yard it hit I believe were not home so that would lead me to think it was someone travelling on 83 highway.

We got a nice rain last night, although we also received a bit of hail. Just enough to get you praying that it would stop. Just over an inch of rain.

At this point I'd be fine with a season ending hail event. It would pay better.

Frick. We got hammered today. Straight line winds. Starts around Omaha, NE I guess and intensifies once it hits Des Moines, IA then pushes into Illinois and Wisconsin, not sure on other states. It cut close to a 100 mile wide swath through Iowa. 60-130 mph winds. Corn flat, trees uprooted, heavy property damage. A rough estimate of 20 million bushels of grain storage is eliminated that I know of, probably much more. I'm on cell data so can't upload pics. Utilities are basically all down.

Wind was probably 60-80 mph at my place, heavy rain, maybe an inch, some hail but with wind like that you can't tell.
I have no major infrastructure damage like I said worst is giant oak trees on pasture fences.
Buddy has 2 2400 head hog barns laying on top of gates with pigs inside yet.
News is reporting approximately 650 mile long swath into Illinois and Indiana.
It's called a derecho. Was on the edge of one in 2011, much of the same area hit again.

Cpt I saw some pictures of some huge bin systems caved in, what a mess! I would imagine there will be lots of crop damage too, saw some really flat corn. Here we actually had a half inch on half the farm, not on my soybeans though. ;-| Actually had utility issues myself, both the three phase and a couple days later the single phase line into the same yard both went down. Climbed the tower 5 times on friday trying to figure out why the leg would not run, only later to find out it was not my problem at all. Oh well, at least the view is good from the top...lol

Wow, that is shitty. Hopefully no loss of life. One thing that always worries me is wind. I can deal with loss of crop, but to have infrastructure/resident get destroyed is a whole different ball game.

No idea on casualties, hopefully none.
My estimate was low, one local coop report 16 million bushels of storage destroyed, another has 30 million. That doesn't include farm storage or other coops. Easily 100 million of Iowa storage gone.

Holy crap that's insane ! Wish you all the best, you have had quite the year for weather. It was fairly windy here the last couple of days, I wonder if it's because of that same system? Never watched the news last night so just looked it up after reading on here, some scary videos, especially one of Chicago where the storm rolls in and it goes completely black within seconds.

Did anybody in the eastern part of Saskatchewan or Manitoba get much from that storm that moved through today? I heard along the border places got ping pong sized hail. Another twister again around the same area that had the one that killed the kids last week. Brother in law got a picture of the twister today near Kemnay.
Seen this west of home after I heard of the tornado, not sure if it was the making of anything or not, but gets a guy a little concerned when there alerts going off!!
