How did everyone survive last nights storms?
A few hailstones here in EC AB, not enough to hurt anything, and about 3/4” of rain.

Anyone know what the Red deer Ponoka Stetler area looks like? Last few days in a row the radar didn't look nice. Lamont coop got the roof torn off two nights ago I believe.

Figured this as good a place as any to say this, with the heat guys, look after yourselves...I kind of almost over did it yesterday...AC not working in the swather and I never took the time to recharge it, in the past when that has happened was warm but actually not that bad as the blower moves a lot of air and that Macdon cab has good shading ability. Well later in afternoon I noticed I was losing voltage on the alternator and over time after plugging the crimper a couple times and stalling it, battery was getting down to where the fan wasn't running as fast as normal. Just wanted to get the one part done so kept pushing. Then when I got to where I wanted to be, stopped to clean things off before driving home and noticed I had broken a bolt on a crimper tension spring, so crawled under to remove the spring as it was dragging on the ground. All seemed ok at that point. Drove home and backed it up in front of shop and as I was getting the battery charger out I noticed I was feeling kind of funny. Seemed disorientated while hooking it up, and had a noticeable shortness of breath and could tell the old ticker was going overdrive. Went in the house and sat down for a while, wasn't really thirsty as I had been drinking lots of water earlier, but yea after about half hour def felt a lot better, so all was ok. Was kind of a wake up call, I've never had an issue dealing with the stuffiness and heat of no ac before in equipment, but yesterday I wish I had shut things done when I first began to feel uncomfortable. Sucks getting old. Don't make same mistake as me, look after yourselves, don't over do it.

I hear you Albertabuck. We are not used to summer yet, because we haven't had much of it. When the heat comes, along with with high humidity, it doesn't take much to slow a guy down. Getting work done is important, but one has to be in decent health to work. Try to enjoy the heat! It's been a while.

Yup, 3:30 pm I am done till it cools a bit. Completely agree with Abbuck and victory. Its the shits when its gorgeous haying weather, but I can only handle so much heat. If I push like yesterday it will just come back to haunt me the next day. It also give the fields a chance to dry abit more and I am sticking with that excuse lol.

Hot, humid, bone dry here. After the late June weekend deluge of 12-15" the spigot shut off. Starting to see signs of drought/heat stress in crops. Crick bottom pastures that were under water are toast, never got a rain to wash them off. One extreme to the next!

Still getting used to the site. We got about 1/2" that night, but places a little farther west got nailed pretty good. Heard up to 3". Pretty impressive light show though. Haven't seen lightning like that for quite a while! Lots of "sheet lightning" and a lot of very bright vertical "bolts of lightning". Would have been enough to power all our farms for a few days.

How is the weather holding up for everyone? Bone dry in my immediate area, most of Iowa is said to be that way I guess. If we don't see rain shortly we will be chopping silage in 2 weeks, about 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Crops look to be holding on pretty good considering we had somewhere around a half inch for the month of July. Drought stress starting to show though on lighter soils pretty good. This week has been cool with highs in the mid 70's but cranking up to the 90's this weekend into next week. I'd say the top end yield is off the corn but the potential is still there for a pretty good crop. Beans are made in August here so we will see what happens.

We have been hot and dry around here the last couple of weeks which is good. Moisture is good to fill the crops. Just need to push them along with more heat. Peas are stating to turn yellow and die off and early barley is starting to ripen up. We should be chopping barley Silage by the end of the week.

We are okay for moisture, crops would definitely benefit from a good soaker at this point though. The soybeans here literally could be 70+ if we could score a couple inches soon, they look that good. I doubt they make much over 40 if it stays dry though. Was on a crop tour out to SW of Winnipeg today and they actually had cracks in the ground that you could almost shove your hand into already but down a foot it is still damp, weird dirt that is. I would say crops there are going backwards.
Should start peas here maybe late next week, some pea/oat silage is cut already.

Wow are we ever far behind. Picking peas form the neighbors 160ac garden is what you would use for stir fry. Wheat is okay provided no early frost. Canola is screwed IMO. Flooded in spring, smoking heat at flower. Recipe for "no big money for you" , unfortunately.
