My memory of 2019 had a happy ending . My best friend neighbour was struggling to get his oats off . I knew they don’t work Sunday so as soon as I was done my canola we took all my harvest equipment and started combining his oats on Saturday . I believe it was Monday it started that first heavy rain of 2019. He was wide eyed happy to see his crop in the bin.
What makes the story special is he returned the favour on Nov 2 when he help me clean up soybeans in the snowy conditions .
Calder , funny thing is I remember the river flooding ! On Nov 12 I our family moved back to our city house . One night we went for an evening walk at kings park by the u of m . It was dark and little did I know we were walking on frozen river ice instead of the park trail .
More thunderstorms today .

2019 we had to leave 200 ac of barley swaths out. Combined it mid May. Days are much longer in May than Oct or Nov, had lots of bin space, barley was dry, crop ins paid for cleaning out the deer excreta, and the price was much higher! 😄 That said, we just got 1.5 inches last night. Makes 2.5 since we finished the barley. Really glad it's in the bin.

Just got another almost 3/4 inch yesterday. Combine has not moved since the 2 inches we got about 10 days ago. Forecast is looking better and maybe can get going towards the end of next week. Doing dry beans and have to wait for the ground to be dry in order to get going as dirt tag is a big problem. Avoided a frost last night so looks like the corn should mature but it is still at about 50% milk line on average so it needs a couple more weeks of good weather. Calling for 30 degrees by Wednesday so that will help.

Can't buy a rain here. Could really use an inch or two.

Got 3 tenths Monday night-could have used 5 times that. Woke up this morning to a white front yard. Thermometer showed plus 2°C. Not sure what that means for the lower land. That was August 8. Well, I can tell you now that it meant about a 15bu (canola) hit in the low areas. 😑

Strung a few 20+ sunny days together and then had +30 and 40k winds all day today. 10 days after 8in+ of rain we'll see what kind of fun we can get into with the combine tomorrow. Neighbors started rolling yesterday and today with varying degrees of success depending on the field/crop and if they have have tracks/4wd or not.

I was surprised how well it worked but I was running 1900 psi on the 635s flex’s . Trucking the beans is a slow job now , roads are terrible soft . I could have sworn I told the grain cart guy 3/4 loads but ohhhh no , has to be tit full !! That is a lot of weight on a tandem end dump ! 1100 bushels . Moisture is 12.8 and nice clean beans . Short days thou , we quite at 8 pm . Beans are nice though you can usually start at 10 am . Happy with the yield so far .

Started beans yesterday, went to a field where I was 99% sure we'd have mud and water and surprisingly only water we found was in the deepest ditch in a sprayer rut. Was able to load the tandem and 30' pup right up, no problem.
1500 or so psi on the 740FD header.
Yield was good, excited to get back out there today.
Forecast looks good although I'm one of those "waiting for the shoe to drop" kind of people. Who knows how long it'll last. Gotta giver while we can!

I would guess there is about 20% of the crop still out in the field around here, some wheat but mostly canola. Most of the canola is in swaths, but there is also some standing stuff for straight cutting. One field of standing stuff is starting to turn yellow again. That doesn't look like fun.
The past week of weather has not allowed for much harvesting. It's been showery and cloudy most of the time. Most of the daytime highs have not been reaching double digits. We are really hoping and praying for sunshine and warmer temps.
On the other hand, we have not yet had a killing frost. Often a killing frost is what seems to change the weather pattern. The petunias in the flowerbed still look pretty good! But I would rather see the harvest get completed. We are done ourselves, but hoping to help some neighbors out where there were 2 deaths in one family in the last month. The community is definitely stepping up to help.

We are a bone dry tinder box again. Zero rain since August 1. Beans are over fry like always but I'm pulling 113 rm corn out of the field at sub 16%. Bean yields average, would've been phenomenal with an inch or two in August. Corn running on the high end of average to moderately above.

Hopefully everyone is done canola there then. I remember one year here where the canola "swaths" were 8-10' high against the tree line. They were forking it into the combine headers. Was no pod shatter resistant stuff back then so probably lost the majority of it, but at least it was off the field. It is drying here today. My nephew tried some of his neighbor's canola and it is still testing 13.6. Hopefully guys can get going again next week.
