I would not have thought my shortest crop that I can recall would also be one of the best. Wheat doing 55 bu/ac on 70ac so far. I am happy with 55 bu/ac malt barley with same or sometimes heavier fertilizer applied. Thinking the opposite of Oat King in that i will leave it to mother nature to give out what she can rather than pound on the inputs year after year to gain those few more bushels when weather makes it all come together. This is right outside the yard so that 5" rain up to mid August in the yard would be about as accurate as I can get for data. A little more rain in early July would have been something. Lots of unseeded acres from sloughs so really a guy should be figuring things based on bushels per quarter section, not bu/ac. Should be a good year with the income vs input ratio way off to the good side.
Grasshoppers non existent. Can't really say it was because I sprayed. They just disappeared early July. Lots and lots of crickets, never seen so many dead crickets around the shed doors.

I always find it interesting what guys are happy with for yields in different areas. 55bu barley here would be almost a disaster crop. Malt isn’t much better then what we priced feed for right now either.
We got our wheat done yesterday and have 800 acres of barley to get done. Hopefully we can get going by 1pm with the fog and smoke around. Then it will be a waiting game for canola.

Maybe 40ish which is pretty good for this year . My yield monitor on the 9760 is not calibrated for canola . Need to perfect the calibration factor ! 680 is close to spot on . I got them set to not throw over a kernel of seed! Honestly can’t find any! Take that Deere haters!!! Ha ha ! It’s interesting how different the wind setting is for swath and standing canola . Seed size is a bit smaller than last year , At this point I can’t wait till next spring ! Love this farming job! I wonder if this looks better than it is crop will be seen by more guys . Hardly any canola harvested yet!

We just wrapped up all our barley and are moving onto wheat today if it is fit. Likely have some of the early canola be ready to combine by the weekend if the wheat isnt ready.

We started seeding may 5? Had a day of oats then moved to wheat. It was up in 5 days. We sprayed it for fungicide 2.5 weeks earlier then last year.

^^ kevlar Ha, surely you're old enough to know that saying: "close only counts in horseshoes and hand-grenades", 😆.

clippping along at a good pace now. Moisture 9.5 . man it’s hard to estimate canola . Another semi load and it’s a good 50bpa. Kevlar and Meski should have 70 based on your stand !!! Gary’s got a solid 75!!!!

I don’t know, there’s a fairly good chance ours might get froze, still quite green 😬, better than a couple fields in the area that are still flowering,, not a hope in hell they’re going to make it. I never like to guess yield, always aim low so it’s like a bonus if it’s better, have never had canola do 75 so doubtful this will.

What is feed barley fetching these days? If you want to give it away to an elevator, around 6 bucks here, I wouldn’t take any less than $8 myself.
