I think the new seed treatments are like crack for flea beetles.
Take away the good seed treatment so we have to spray insecticide on it. Makes perfect sense

I sprayed the field today, a lot of variability out there but some was getting hurt and there is enough beetles to be concerned. I think last time I sprayed for flea beetles I used furadan, so should give an idea how often I spray for beetles.
Man I wish we had Lindane back, it worked!

That's interesting OD, when I was doing pre-burn there was lots of beatle damage to the volunteer cotyledons but by the time our first canola started emerging (a week ago)I noticed the volunteers were getting the first two leaves and they were undamaged and nothing was bothering ours yet. All Buteo treated seed. I still can't find any damage. Hopefully it stays that way.

Hard to figure those little guys out. Have seen volunteer canola completely untouched while seeded canola was ravaged. Had canola grow up around the dryer one fall that podded out, the beetles moved in and chewed that thing down to a stick, even ate some of the pods. If they would just come into a field and eat the volunteer canola and broad leaf weeds and leave the canola alone, we could all live in harmony.

Well just to throw another wrench into everything, anyone have cutworm problems? A few guys I talked to are having problems north of me.

Think I'm seeing cutworm damage but I can't find the little buggers. Maybe it was just a frost we had as some of the canola was just emerging. 🤷♂️

Seeing some beetle damage around here....but I would think with the rain and wind for the next few days the canola might outgrow the potential damage. Thoughts?

They where easy to find though. I first started looking when I started seeing small holes in the ground the diameter of a small pencil.

Yes, pretty much any broadleaf I’ve noticed, but I don’t think they will touch hemp nettle.
