Currently run a Ford New Holland 946 pulling a 40ft 8810 w/mrb's on 8 inch spacing. Tank is a Bourgault 3195 w/third tank(230 bushel approx.) and dual fans. Any faster than 4mph and you run the risk of plugging due to fan speed drop when turning on headlands. I need to cover more acres a day without spending a fortune. Currently looking at New Holland 9682 as its about the cheapest upgrade out there to get increased hydraulic capacity. I am wondering how big of a drill a 9682 can pull in pot hole country.(sw Manitoba) Would a 54ft. bourgault 5710 with mrb's and a dual 6450-6550 tank be too big? I don't think this tractor could run a paralink's hydraulics could it? Any other suggestions? thanks

We pulled a 47’ 5710 with 6450 tank behind a 9882. It only had 20.8x42 tires on it that was the biggest issue with that setup. I wouldn’t rule out a case or John Deere tractor of that era either.

This particular 9682 has 710/38's and two weight stacks on the back. The horsepower is supposed to have been bumped up but I haven't confirmed yet. How is the horsepower increased on n14's? 1996 model if that matters.

I think that would be a pretty good load for that tractor. Depending on your soil, a 5710 can be a tough drill to pull when it's wet. We have never had a 5710 but our neighbor has a 47 foot unit, 10 inch space with MRB, a 350 bushel tank and NH3 on behind that with a newer 435 horse Case tractor with pretty big rubber, and a couple years ago he was stuck quite a few times with it. Power wasn't the problem, they just bog down in the mud. We have a 9680 at 350 horse and a 4350 tank we now use for putting down 46 and it handles it no problem with sweeps but will likely add a little more weight to it next spring as it was slipping a bit. When we used it for seeding we used spoons and you couldn't even tell it was behind the tractor We got a 9880 last spring with tripples and a 58 foot 8800 with 8 inch space and a 5440 tank, no trouble pulling it last spring but it wasn't exactly overly wet. It depends a lot on your soil type, I don't think you could pull as many feet of a 5710 as you would a 8810, just from what I've seen in my area.

If you buy that tractor than a disc drill is out of the question. I tried pulling a disc drill with a 2375 vers and it didnt work well. Not enough hydraulic and 375 hp was bogging down in red river clay soils. The N14 would be a good choice and would think with knives on that 5710 you should pull fine. Only problem is the double fan. That may create a problem on 54 ft.
Try find a tractor with at least 80 gallans per minute. Those versi s are in the 45-50 gpm and are heating up pretty hot at full steam a head.

I would prefer a Tj/Stx with 425hp or higher but they are a minimum 125k prices and hard to find. They are better with 55 or 57gpm hydraulics but still not enough for a paralink I don't think. 80gpm tractors are 175-200k. 9682's are more like 75k which I could then afford a bit bigger drill.

55 gallon pump will run a paralink and a double fan bourgault tank. Won’t be the best but will do it if needed.

I run a 6350 with 2 fans 40 ft of 3320 paralink, I added a 50-60 gal pump to the front of the 946 ,,runs it no problem ,had to turn the pump down ,the shanks were out of the ground in 3 seconds or so , figure 30 gal probably is enough for just my drill ,if your a dIY guy then build your own hyd setup ,5 years and working great

radar what kind of pump did you add to your 946? I also was looking for a good condition 9682 or 9882. A pto on a 9682 would be ideal but an additional 50 gpm would make it a cheap running horsepower tractor. Also those tractors are so ideal because of less technology to go wrong. Hard to find a premium unit. Maybe a newer versatile 435 or 485 with the 15l might be something to look at.

The 435 485 tractors I find are nicer to run then the newer 450-550 ones.

It looks like the 9682 is what I will have for next spring. Considering input prices that's as much as I want to spend on a tractor. Now the hunt is on for a different drill. Most of the 5710's I find are huge like 72-74ft. Anything optioned the way I want and 54ft max is in Alberta or western Saskatchewan. Does anyone know where to find one in Manitoba/eastern Saskatchewan?

Radar's pics made me think of something I ended up with years back at a sale that come from a dealer. Was all in Atom Jet boxes, there is four or five pulleys that I believe will bolt onto the crank of a L10/M11 Cummins. They don't fit the 855, but is that same style bolt pattern so I suspect its for the smaller engine. There was also large double pulleys with Browing tapered hubs for putting on the pump or whatever drive as well. Think they come from Crawford's in Camrose or the NH dealer in New Sarepta. I bought up pallets of that kind of stuff so can't remember exactly.
If anyone needed one of them engine pulleys say so, I have one in the shop I can measure up and get pics of.
