Just wondering if people have any good tricks to keep the chaff and straw out of the truck rads. We have screens on the front and try to keep the fans off while turning around in the field but they still seem to get full of crap.

When we used to haul lots of silage back in the day we used furnace filters to keep chaff out of Rads. You can buy rolls of it worked well.

I installed a high flow rad in all my trucks. A lot of highway tractors are not made for dusty conditions so when you put those trucks in the field or down soft roads they start to heat. It made a world of a difference those high flow rads keeping the engine temps low. I usually drop straw so the field is less dusty. I leave my fans on all day. Also if you can make swing outs on the small rads in front of the engine rad that usually helps make maintenance easier. It always bugged me that the smaller rads are bolted on about an inch in front of the engine coolant rad, makes for time consuming cleaning.
Does anybody use a low pressure steam cleaner.

Our one truck when we replaced the rad we did get one with more space between the fins. Made a big difference.

When we used to use a tandem and no grain cart we had window screen. Make sure all the perimeter is sealed up so the air has to go through the screen, then just shut engine off and tap it and it's good to go.

We still use tandems but have had a grain cart for 5 years. The grain cart has solved all of the rad plugging issues. 8-)

We use a grain cart also. Just seems turning around in the field a few times a day causes rads to accumulate crap in them. Our Pete is worse then our Freightliner. Need to get it sealed up better

We haul everything off with a tandem and run semi in the field sometimes as well, have never had issues with the rad plugging. Blow out a couple times each harvest, just as maintenance, but more so to keep the engine itself clean.
