Nice big swaths SWMan. Seems spraying season was too windy and so far haying season is too calm, ha. Going to need a few days drying here too.

Not sure this is going to pay many bills, hope I don’t owe any of you money 😬😬. For those of you who have never experienced water coming out of the top of the hills, this is what it looks like.

It’s amazing how ground water moves! Kevlar , when I was breaking land near sprague I encountered the same ground water issue. It’s a strange feeling being able to disc thru the valleys but as soon as I hit the top , I sunk! To correct the problem we cut a ditch from the hill tops to a road ditch . That water ran at least a few months until the water table dropped . I still think you farm beautiful country up there kevlar. I think , I am confident to say is canola has frustrated me the most over the years. Lots of canola is hanging on over here too.

Just finished most of the canola, sprayer was down from about 5 yesterday until 3:30 today. That’s a story in itself, I’ll get into that another day 🙄. Sprayer is filled and ready to go do the last 100 acres of barley. Can’t say I’ve ever crop sprayed on July 10 before. Still have about 90 acres of dad’s canola left but there might be 10-15 acres of it left so going to leave it a week or so and do it.
Leaving for Craven tomorrow afternoon so don’t give a crap about anything until I get back!

Yep ,some canola fields took a kicking . That last three inches sure hurt the picket book. I got a quarter that is in a world of hurt right now . It looked bumper week and a half ago and I thought it had decent drainage ! Glad I at least saved the added fungicide cost 😵💫
Funny thing is , earlier this spring I had a quarter of oats that looked horrible . I wanted to reseed it or something . But , All the cool weather and rain turned that oat crop around . Don’t even recognize the field anymore. Very surprised ! So , I gained one field of oats and lost a canola field due to the cool wet weather.
I think guys with corn that was stressed earlier , will be happy now that it is greening up and looking decent !

finished spraying soybeans today . As soon as the heat came on the soybeans have been looking awesome. I am so glad I didn’t give up on beans . Soybeans grew thru the excess moisture again . riverlot land makes the worse farmer look like a pro !!!!

I think guys with corn that was stressed earlier , will be happy now that it is greening up and looking decent ! I sprayed my corn field that was sandblasted down to the dirt(twice) yesterday. It is definitely behind but came back nicely. Had some canola that was on the ropes and one more rain would have done it in, dry warm weather has it looking better every day. Low spots will still be poor though in almost all crops.

Out in Regina right now, have to say some really nice looking crops all the way here and some good looking hay crops as well. Haven’t been west of home for awhile and I’d say maybe 20 miles west things get looking a lot better. When I left the crops were starting to look better after a couple days without rain and heat. Maybe get something yet 🤞. Nice to get away and not have to see and deal with things at home.

Hate to complain , but after the flood of 22 , our liberal government had an open pocket book for flood repair . Boy did everybody with a truck and a high hoe come out of the wood work . Some work was done right ! But oh my f ing goodness did they screw up water drainage ! Lots had lasers but cut long dug out for water to stand still in ditches . I lost one quarter of canola that way . Rm of Morris will be repairing this nonsense for twenty years .! These guys were not professional operators ! It’s frustrating to see the damage . We pay close to 5000 dollars a quarter in the r m of Morris . That really hurts to pay that when the field is a complete loss🤦♂️ Glad I limit my canola acres. Some guys fields near rosenort might be lucky to get 4-5 bushels an acre of canola ! Yes , it’s that bad as back up water from our west flooded our fields . I am glad my worst field might be 25 but holy crap , lots of 5 bushel an acre canola north west of rosenort ! Some guys had two tractors pumping water over the road because the ditch work was so bad ! It’s a strange year again for canola . Some of my canola will do 50 or better and some might do 25. Right now I think 40 will be my average . That hurts the pocket book . Oats look like 165 or better , maybe even 200bpa!! and beans may be 35-40ish . Beans are hard to tell yet . Oats is by far and away the brightest star on oat kings farm. That is why I consistantly put 60 percent of my farm in oats . Glad I presold 130 ish bushel per acre at 5.65 a bushel. The rest I might it 4.50. I often wonder why so many guys grow hrs wheat! When I use my numbers oats makes almost twice as much money as wheat does. I know rotation plays into it ! If I get hailed out , you guys get first dibs on that price !!! I still think canola is under valued currently .
I am still pumped for harvest even though a few canola fields turned into shitola!

Next two weeks will be the big ones. No rain in forecast next week but had a wet week that ended 10 days ago so crops not short on moisture yet. Wheat still pushing heads out, lower ground still at flag leaf. Peas are blooming and short, saw a couple of pods started. Mustard hitting full bloom now and looking good. Flax really stretched out the past week and saw a couple stray blooms. Early next week would be a great time for an inch of rain but not likely. So it goes, a good crop isn't made in May or June, hot windy and dry in mid to late July will change whatever occurred prior.
