Oats still have some green in them testing 15.3. Wheat is testing 15 so we are going on that

The past week we had anywhere from 10-50mm of rain total from a few (thunder)storms. Some guys didn't get much and a few miles down the road some guys had a downpour. The forecast for this week is for 25mm of rain on Tuesday and another 10-15mm on Wednesday. Looks much better after that. Harvest is just starting here. Some peas and some barley have been harvested, a few fields of canola have been swathed, and some wheat has been desiccated. Still can't believe how much harvesting is going on in Saskatchewan and Manitoba already.

Combines in almost every quarter gets a lot of acres cleaned up . I would rather farm out where you are where it’s not a rat race ! It’s crazy here . Guys fighting over every quarter tooth and nail . A lot of small farmers have lost half their farms because they can’t afford 7000 an acre . I don’t blame them . We also have a ton more heat units . Although some guys are still worried about frost in corn . Soybeans are just starting to get a yellow tinge on some leaves . I figure in three weeks some beans will come off.

Finished canola a week ago here, oats should be done today all goes well. Forecast looks less bad now but the way it was everyone was pushing pretty hard to get it in the bin. String a couple 12+ separator hour days together and it disappears pretty quick

I was referring more to how quickly crops ripen out your way. That's the extra heat units you have over us I imagine. It's not a whole lot less crazy around here when it comes to land prices. We have quarters selling for 7000 or more an acre here too. We managed to combine some barley today that was desiccated about 10 days ago. Some wheat is getting close to ready, but the rain will stop everything for a while.

Two relatively short days in peas, they are dirty and short this year although yielding decent. Hopefully wrap them up tomorrow, it is supposed to rain tomorrow night. One knife needed a major rebuild on the FD75's, so went into town to get a knife assembly. Been meaning to get a spare for awhile now just hadn't got around to it. Well I bought the last set for a 40' header and was informed Macdon isn't making them any more! So instead of rebuilding a knife with new sickles in the off-season it means a big job in harvest if you don't have one. Two of us changed the double knife and over half the guards in under two hours because of the spare. Also noticing that the stock Claas cylinder in my new to me combine appears to plug easier than the Sunnybrooks in the other ones I've had. Got to figure out how to get the MAV chopper to spread wider too, got some longer fins but they don't seem to be making a difference.

I am hoping today is last day in oats . Hoping to make some rounds in the canola . Most cereals have been taking off . A few guys are starting canola . My canola has been down for 15 days . Looks like a half inch of rain coming tonight . Yesterday we didn’t turn a wheel . Humidity was too high . 15.5 percent moisture in oats . That’s too high If you want to haul in your contract right away . Beans are sure lush . Beans might be the Cinderella story this year ! Price is not great but they sure grew thru the 13-14 inches of rain we had ! Looks like oats with gross the highest return , than beans and canola on my farm . I don’t expect any surprises when I start my canola .

I'm hoping to finish oats today too. They were down into the 12% moisture for awhile in the afternoon. Going into aeration bins anyway. I haven't had much luck delivering oats off the combine. We straight cut them without a pre-harvest spray, so they are generally a bit tough and some green. A couple weeks in the bin and they come out perfect. Takes a lot of bin space though.

The green disappears on air in the bin? Ours have some green in them this year so that’s what we are hoping. Down to 13ish moisture but the odd green kernal

On the MAV that I have raising the tailboard seems to help the most for a wider spread, but I imagine that is not news to you. Not sure how guys with 50' headers are doing it.

Our claas spread 45’ without much issue with a prochop.
The mav on our new Holland we put some wind blades instead of straight knifes on a couple rows to spread.

At least not green enough to cause any complaints. A few years ago I got burnt waiting too long, got a crazy wind and shelled out probably 20 bushels. Once it hits 16-17%, hammer down. Don't worry about the green seeds if you're putting it on air, just get it in the bin. Straight cutting oats is slow but the only way to go IMO. Got the oats done today and got into the spring wheat. Then got rained out around 9pm. but sure feels good to get the oats done.

Out class machines love oats. Would rather straight cut them than pick up a swath. 780 will easy push 2500bu/hour. Out 670 will be in the 1500bu range. A little tougher straw is actually better. Can push more from them if we wanted but trucks wouldn’t keep up anyway.
We are half done our oats then got rained out about 7 tonight. Testing in the 11s with the odd green in them. Had the 670 break down with the return cross auger drive pulley broke. The centre cracked right out of it was down for 3 hours. Glad our dealer stocks most parts and is 20 minutes from the yard.

I am the same way with oats . It’s more a battle for me to keep up trucking so I usually keep the combines going around 3mph . That is fast enough in heavy oat swaths . Finished the oats and started canola today . It is what I thought it would be ! I hope the beans finish before a frost . That would be painful if they got hit ! I still need two weeks for beans to drop leaves .
