What is everyone doing against mosquitoes in your yards. It was not bad for many years, but this year is for sure different. I heard some guys getting the plane to spray their yards. Others using foggers. Which chemicals working good without beeing a problem for the kids?

Spraying your yard helps for maybe a day or two, then they just flow back in. Foggers help for the evening but that’s about it. What I find works best is to invite people over that really attract mosquitoes, they will leave you alone then! My wife is one of those people, she’ll be getting attacked by them and I might get one or two bites.

I spray my yard with pounce. Can put some on your clothes for ticks if you want also.

Does anyone else have lots of ticks this year? I’ve never seen it like this before. Pull off a bunch that are stuck in every day and a bunch more just crawling on me, and that’s just from walking in the yard or into an approach. I wonder if it being so dry last year was good for them? It must be unbearable for wildlife right now with ticks and mosquitoes. Likely with so few people burning fields and ditches now unlike years ago is helping them to get worse.

One day when I was walking the dog on the 2 tracks road with grass in the middle I had over 100 ticks, ended up taking my clothes off in the road and squishing them with rocks (never let a tick live is my motto). I don't remember them this bad, I think 40 was my previous max. I have taken off 2 black legged ticks this year too, they are the Lyme disease carriers, so check well. I remember when we used to burn the ditches and sloughs, it was great fun for kids.

Sprayed the hall grounds with pounce couple days ago to try and keep the mosquitos down. Heavy rate and 35 gallons/acre of water seemed to get rid of most of them. Setting up on Friday night was almost unbearable with them swarming you.

One of my friends adds malathion to his gas when he mows and fogs the lawn at the same time! He says it works for him and doesn't hurt his lawnmower either. Malathion is a bit oily so you may have to change the spark plugs a little bit more often.
