Anybody do some research on ideal pea spacing ? How wide can you stretch that row space. I have not grown peas for years . I wondered if 15 inch is too wide apart or does that help the plant stand up better with less disease , I thought if I can stretch it to 15 than it fits well with beans and canola planting . What have you guys tried or seed normally ! Thanks for any info .

my previous drill was a flexi coil with 12" spacings and it worked well for peas, my newer 5000 is 10" and i was happier with the narrower spacings seems to stand better
15" i wonder if thats starting to be to far apart, i always like to see the pea vines intertwine together to help stand

My previous airseeder with 9.25 spacing did a super job. I guess it would also depend on how tall your variety is. Plus they like to intertwine with their neighbor.

I have 9 inch spacing as well. Wish they made new flexi coil 5000 with 9 inch spacing.

I think peas will vine out and adapt to a wide range of row spacings, I've had peas 5-6' tall here so hard to imagine a couple inches making a big difference to final yield. There are two considerations that still matter due to row spacing that stand out to me though: Inoculant rate- You need to put a higher rate on a narrower row spacing to get the same concentration in the row, and inoculant is important. So small additional cost for narrower rows. Weed control- Post-emerge pea herbicides need to be applied by a certain stage, and that often happens fast and before canopy. So you will want the crop to canopy as quickly as possible after application. Seeding rate can be increased to accelerate this and I've seen higher yields from 3 bu+ seeding rates.
For many years I was at 7.5" spacing and grew some amazing peas, went to 10" last year and had a decent crop too for the minimal rain we had. 12" probably would work but I'd be putting down some pre-emerge weed control like authority to keep it clean.

We’re trying peas for the first time this year, how much innoculant should I use for 8 inch spacing?

I would not go to 15" spacing on peas. The pea seeds will pretty well be touching each other to get enough seeds/ft2. Weed control is likely going to be more difficult as well as already mentioned.

We’re trying peas for the first time this year, how much innoculant should I use for 8 inch spacing? Depends on the brand, should be a recommended rate on the bag for row spacing. I always went about 10% higher, but all my land was first time pea ground. Some guys buy two types of inoculant and blend them, just in case there is a bad batch. Don't let it freeze and don't stack too high.
