Has anyone ever grown Croplan canola? I’ve never heard of the company until today when I was talking to my retailer. Sounds like an American company making its way into Canada.

I've grown it for 3 years now yields just as good as any thing else we've grown here. This year it out yielded the best Brett young variety we grew. Growing it again next year

Retailer moves some of their liberty varieties, they sound promising. We were quite interested in trying some as they generally have larger seed sizes and the plants are quite bushy with larger leaves both of which are suited to us using a planter. But sounds like the shatter resistance isn't quite there yet for full un-dessicated straight cutting so we stick with Invigor for now. If I still swathed I'd definitely put a bunch in

I was thinking of trying one of their roundup varieties , they rate them pretty good for pod shatter. Might do some field trials next year, used to really like a variety from Pioneer but they discontinued it and the only pod shatter they have left is just a touch to long season for us, lucked out the last couple of years with it but we’re flirting with disaster if we keep growing it.

Neighbors had some in this yr, so far their best yielder. Other neighbors that's all they grew. Might try some next year. The amount of canola seed choices and programs are borderline ridiculous.

I agree on the variety choice ! Gary , you should see the choice on soybean varieties ! That is insane . Long , mid and early varieties of just a few days ! I try to stay loyal to my one seed dealer who plants the beans for me and I also try to stick with a tried and true soybean variety. With canola seed , I am very Leary to try the next greatest thing. I have been disappointed way too often , trying to go after company premiums instead of going after a proven yielder! For the last 7 years I have only grown invigor canola . L252 and now l356pc. I have been a lot more successful doing that approach. At 800 dollars a bag of canola I am fearful of poor results. With out equipment loans figured in to my canola costs it is 435 an acre. A 30 bushel crop is a disaster now. Now with the sudden collapse in canola , some guys who harvested 15-20 in my area might make more than the guy who got 36 bushels an acre or slightly above their crop insurance . That is crazy economics I would say! I know last year nexera seed was less money for seed compared to invigor. Is that what you guys are finding?
