Hey guys , bunge is busy promoting new crop nexera canola. In your honest opinion does it pay to grow nexera compared to regular canola. I have tried it in the past and didn’t have much luck. I wondered if in the last several years if nexera varieties have improved.

We have never grown Nexera before but did do a different high oil content variety one time, the price difference wasn’t as much as Nexera is now though. I found it inconvenient having to keep it separate from the rest of the canola, if you have plenty of bin space it wouldn’t be such a hassle. And of course it was supposed to go early but had to hold it several months longer, maybe it works better with Nexera?

We've been growing some Nexera for the last number of years. Using 1028RR as it seems to stand well and it has performed well for us. We have both straight cut it and swathed it. Now, this year I swathed one quarter North/South as there is a treeline in the field and made quite a few piles and what we have done of it so far has been slow going, pickup pulling swath 15' in front of header. The other quarter of 1028 I swathed was East/West and went much better. It was some of the first stuff we straight cut, thinking probably 2017, I had swathed about 40 acres prior to it freezing and was having a hard time but it was going, then after the frost it would not swath. We left the rest stand and when we combined it the swathed stuff never did fully cure and had a high green count and the standing stuff cured out fully and straight cut beautifully. I also grew a quarter of the new LL Nexera this year, B3017 I think it is. We straight cut that last week and it stood nice and so far looks like it did a few bushels better than the 1028 across the road. I'm a half hour East of the crusher at Nipawin, yesterday's price for regular canola was $15.68 and Nexera was $18.51, $2.83 difference plus $10-$12/ tonne trucking. At those numbers we need close to 10 bushels more on our regular canola so we will see when we get back in the field here! I'm not ready to book the whole farm but will continue to do a portion of our acres for now. They have another new LL variety for next year that is supposed to perform better yet than the B3017 and I booked a half section of that, can't remember all the program details and premiums right now though!

so far has been slow going, pickup pulling swath 15' in front of header. Not on original topic but I found it made a huge difference in these conditions when I put the smallest drive gear on the pickup auger that will fit on the shaft. Doesn’t suck in swath so bad and tears it apart at the feeder house in a more controlled manner.

My retailer in rosenort is promoting the liberty tolerant nexera variety . Man I would love to see a real life plot data against l233 or l356 or l345 against the clear field or liberty tolerant nexera. I can’t grow round up ready nexera because of the volunteers in soybeans . I finally have my fields clean from that weed!! The premiums are tempting ! You’re right kevlar , if you have to hang onto it longer than you first thought , then it’s not really a cash crop anymore. Holy moly. With all the new seed options , trying a new variety is like voting in a new political party!!!! Should I be conservative or take a chance and vote liberal!!!! Sorry for that parity!!! Oh man.

I grew some Nexera until 2016. So those were RR swathed varieties. The biggest negative was the delivery delays. Seemed like a different excuse every year why they couldn't take it when it was contracted for. Also wanted to get away from RR. Haven't really looked back but Bunge is dangling some pretty good premiums on Nexera, and they have a Liberty/straight cut? variety so it is a bit interesting.

Not sure if anybody mentioned it yet , sorry for re asking , has anyone grown brevant 3017n or 3018 liberty tolerant nexera canola. I got a price of 710 per bag , no buteo. Not offered on this canola. Holy got a price for invigor l356pc and was 839! Costs are just getting insane! Not far off of a hundred bucks an acre for canola seed. Can’t find good results to compare these two varieties ? I did some math on the returns and think it is 5-7 bushels per acre i need on l 356. To break even ! It’s so hard to know what the difference will be ! I have seen 20 bushels an acre difference between invigor canola compared to high Uric acid rapeseed! I hate seeding a bunch of varieties . I like one variety set and go! Hoping somebody has decent real life on the prairies yield results ! Thanks

Weve been growing Nex for a lot of years, 1028 is a RR can yield in the 50's , but for us usually is the 40's,,the new 3017 has done over 60 this year on 2 fields, poorest field was 35,,we will average over 50 ,,, one of our highest ,we got lucky this year,,,,I would say all in all this 3017N,on our land is comparable to the 241LL,233LL,346LL we grew.. only one year results, BUT biggest reason to grow it is the plus 120 basis level and 14 $/tonne trucking ,,Weve found Bunge very good on green seeds and dockage As for delivery dates they seem to always call for mine a month or two early. Got to love a company that treats us small guys good ! Seed is 750$ for next year

Bunge said one farmer saw a 5 bushel difference compared to regular invigor. 3018 had better pod shatter properties . Rated a 6 . Regular invigor is an 8. 3017 n is a 4 so it’s a swathing variety. More data is needed for sure!
