when i start harvesting with my 925 flex header the reels go up and down properly then after a short time i can raise them up but when i press the down switch they do not go down but continue to raise up. if i shut the combine down and start up again they work properly for a bit again.i have replaced the syliniod but no difference

soupy, it may be a very simple answer depending on how your operating a certain switch and why the reel lift works fine just after you start the combine ( hint, the unload swing out auger rocker switch has to be set in the neutral "centre" position for the engine starter to operate ). This may surprise you or others but the 9600 has a strange conflicting issue in the hydrauiics with how the unloading auger swing out/fold back rocker switch in the cab is set while operating the reel lift circuit. Somehow its preventing the reel lift oil flow from flowing in the proper direction if the unload auger rocker switch is set to either "in" or "out" and causes the reel to lift instead of lower when you move the reel lift/lower control switch to down, it happens every time !. The example would be combining and then going to dump the hopper so swing out the auger with the rocker ... unload, then once away from the truck you rock the switch to the "in" position but leave it there rather than flip the rocker to the centre position. That won't work, that rocker has to be returned to the centre "off" position before the reel circuit will play nice !
Hopefully that is your problem and the simple solution, let us know if this happens to be your issue.

The only problem with that scenario Northern Farmer is the 9600 won’t start with rocker switch in non-nuetrel position. Been there. Learned my lesson. Took over two hours of farting around til I figured it out.

When soupy uses his reel at first it works fine (switch is in neutral), after unloading he may be leaving the rocker switch on causing the reel to only go one way. So then when he shuts down and starts back up (has to put switch back in neutral to start) it works fine again.

Yes that is correct, it just seems too coincidental that "it works" when he first starts it up as he explained and then after a time the reel lift/lower doesn't seem to work correctly. I've never had it explained as to why those two electric over hydraulic circuits conflict but its in the design somehow as it seems to be a 9600 quirk and perhaps others in that same series/vintage. Also that rocker switch should be returned to the centre/off position as the circuit can keep powering and trying to push oil into the ram constantly if the control on the top of the auger elbow is out of whack I believe. Not that this changes this hydraulic reel lift issue but there is an updated electric assembly for the unload auger swing control on top of the auger elbow as the original unit over time can cause the auger to not hold its folded back position and start to float out a bit from fully retracted.

hey thanks everyone for the replies and i make sure the the auger switch is in the neutral position and its confussing that when i shut the system down that it works again i even tried wiring a seperate switch from the cab to the syloniods on that curciut with no luck im just wondering if it is maybe the relief valve on the control valve stack otherwise i will put a new kit in the reel lift solenoid

i also unplugged the rocker switch from the harness and did the test like the technical manual says to use a jumper wire from pin one to pin 4 that raises te reels and tentopin 5 to lower the reels and it works perfectly so i will keep checking things. and i used to say adjust the nut behind the steering wheel lol

It happened on my 9750 just last week. I’m wondering if when the hydraulic system is taxed that it might do it.
