Got 17 pigs that are 8 weeks old. I’m using them to start the process of making some high fungal compost that I can extract and put thru the air drill and sprayer.

Farming is coming full circle ... We need livestock to improve soil life. Tell that to the greenies ...🙄

This is interesting to say the least. I assume you put the poop in some sort of bio reactor and make a compost tea you spray on the crop. Reminds me of the old farm yards where the pig pen or cow grounds where 60 years later grows the best crops. My best ever canola crop (70 bushels) came off a cow feeding ground. Should find some horse apples to but in there too. It’s like rocket fuel.

We have a couple fields with old cattle yards we shut the nh3 off when seeding otherwise it goes completely flat. Haven’t had cattle there for 50 years or more. Still out yields the rest of the 1/4.

Got an old sheep feeding area on one quarter that probably went 300+bu oats last yr. Hasn't seen a sheep since the 50s.

It’s more than nutrients alone but the combination of organic matter and chemical changes to the soil profile in those places.

Just using the pigs to enhance it. Once the compost is finished then it can be extracted and put thru the drill and sprayer.

Those old feeding spots have levels higher in organic mater. Holds more water, air, biology, minerals

Heard of a guy in the area who, legend has it, would pump the slurry out of a puddle that would form in the spring beside an old manure pile. He would then treat his wheat seed with it. Claimed faster germination and a better crop. I think most people including myself have a chuckle but maybe there was something to it.
