I have the gas tank off my 2360 John Deere swather because it has rust and water in it that was clogging up the fuel system. I cut the end open and found the tank is amazingly clean, but there is rust on the end that I didn't cut open. It has 2 baffles in it that makes the cleanup more difficult, so I cut a hole in the other end as well to have a look. That end must be the lower end as it has more rust. I am not sure of how the water is getting in either, I suspect the fuel level gauge may have leaked, or it is condensation. It also had a putty type repair on one corner, so I wanted that fixed as well. My main questions are: does anyone know if the tank would be treated inside to prevent rust? The inside looks like new metal for the most part what should I do after sandblasting the rust off the bottom of the tank to prevent future rust?

Take it to get the epoxy coating done. It will be better than new.

I think I am going to try Red Kote, mostly because I have some on hand.
