Looking for a used lemken rubin gigant 26 foot vertical tillage tool for managing high straw situations. Although I want to try and stay zero till , its nice to have an option to level a field with these machines.
Anybody own one and have an opinion on its functions and reliability.
Is maintenance a problem getting space to work between discs.
Is the field finish comparable to the Joker or pro till.
Is the pro till from degelman a better option.
Reason I am looking at lemken is they have been around for years and have a decent selection of used units for sale. Dont want to buy new as most new units easily pass the 200k mark.
I thought I would ask here for info before I buy, Thanks!

Gigant is the carrier. It’s basically a bar with 2 3pt hitch and fold assemblies that the implements hook to. Mine is 2 13’ Ruben 9s on a gigant 10 carrier.
The machine has 15-20k acres on it, it’s been good so far. No cracks, breaks in the frames, no broken disk blades no disc bearings have gone out. I have had a set of bearings go on the rolling baskets. Occasionally a bolt will break that holds the spring and keepers on the shank, you’ll find the spring the next pass but the keeper is gone.
For parts keep a supply of bolts, nuts and the funky washers they use, a few spring keepers, and the bushings that on the shanks.
It’s been good in rocks and I’ve got a couple fields that are gravel pits. It does plug/push dirt in super dry light sandy soil, I think that’s an operator adjustment error though.
The Ruben 9s are pretty aggressive machines, probably more tillage than you’re looking for. Have a look at the heliodors, they’re lighter and less aggressive, more likely that’s what you want. I have 425 horse that’s all it will do to pull the Ruben 9, a lot of the time a few more ponies would be nice. The Lemken reps have told me if I’m pulling a 26’ Ruben9 I should be able to handle a 40’ heliodor. That’s a bit of an indicator of the difference in aggressiveness between the two.
I’d strongly suggest demoing a few machines before plunking down the cash. They’re all bloody expensive, picking the wrong one is an expensive proposition.

Rented a Lemken a few years back. Nice heavy unit but lots of adjustments and linkages on it. Bought a Protill after that, solid machine and there's really not much that could go wrong with it.

Well you wouldn’t believe it cpt , my neighbour plants like that and fills his planter boxes with a wheel barrel and 5 gallon pail ! He lifts his signal axle Chevy hoist and lets soybeans fall into the wheel barrel . Than he has his son in law roll the wheel barrel ( single axle one tire) to the planter where he scoops the beans into the planter boxes! I wish I had a video! What’s interesting is this guy out performs everybody with yearly bumper crops albeit on a few acres. It reminds me of the old days! |

[/quote] Finished planting 500ac of soybeans with our 31 row box planter today, filled every seed by hand with 5gal pails. Fill the tractor bucket from the tandem, drive to planter and scoop from waist height. Me and dad can fill the 85bu in about 45mins with putting in talc and closing boxes, gotten it down to 35min with a third person. Done it this way for a few years now. After every spring we say we're going to buy a seed tender but somehow we always find other things to spend the money on by the following spring. |

We demoed a few different ones over the years and they all had plugging issues in wetter soils. The rear discs throw soil onto the rolling baskets and turn them into balls of mud. The ones with rubber rollers plug between the roller and the discs. That being said we bought a rite-way onetill at rbauction mostly because it was cheap. It works alright and maintainance has been minimal, only a couple bearings for the baskets.
