Hey guys , our area is experiencing a lot of break and enters and trucks stolen. I am looking at putting a remote drive way gate and maybe an electric fence to deter thugs from entering my farm yard.
My question is for the livestock guys with electric fences . How high can you turn up the voltage on the wires to give a significant jolt but perhaps not kill a guy or dog? I want to make it so they will give up quickly like being punched in the nuts!!!! What kind of electric fences are available ? Thanks for any info

All the fencers I have currently don't have an adjustment, one old one I had did but it was always on high. It was too weak on the low settings. I am pretty sure there is government regulation on how many joules it can put out. Not to say you can't do some modification to crank it up. Regardless if you are only doing a short run of hot wire it will still give a guy a good jolt. Good grounding is key of course.

One hot wire, one ground wire, close enough together so they have to touch both at the same time. Not sure if it'd keep people out who are determined to get in though.

As my deceased good friend used to say, " It will only keep the honest crooks out." It doesn't matter what we do, if they really want what you have, they will find a way to get it.

Most people too lazy to get a job are also too lazy to steal properly. Keep vehicles out and I suspect you will reduce trespassing by 99%. An electric fence won't do it, but good gates will until they decide to ram them down but we get back to being lazy and likely lazy people will go elsewhere. If they can drive around the gate and still get in then need to create a barrier of some kind. Soon we will be digging 3x3' trenches all around our yards to keep vehicles out. I suspect theft in winter goes down because easy access/escape with vehicles goes down because of snow creating limited entry/exit points.
