Have a tandem that sees 2000km/yr roughly. It needs some new drives. Looking at Mjolnir MHD. Any luck with these? Or any other brands to check out.

I've not heard of those ones but a couple of days ago I was talking to the person who heads up the shop on the local colony and he said they order in a pile of Longmarch tires to put on their super b trucks. I don't know what tread pattern they run but looking up drive tires here is a link of the 4 tires they show and can scroll through a few photo angles on each tire photo. Not sure what company it is they order them from but I believe he said they deal with someone in Edmonton. Of course being the colony they put the tires on themselves and save a lot because of buying the tires in volume. So I guess take that info for what it is and put it on your list of tires to look at and see what sort of prices you find. I haven't bought any truck tires for a few years now and can only imagine how beyond insane brand name tires are these days just looking at how pickup tires have gone through the roof.

I have them instead of re caps on my trailer and on my tandems and semis. Exact same situation , I put on low Kms but when you need the trucks they are ready. The reason I am against recaps is I think people in the tire business accept some pretty rough virgin tires. I tried recaps and as soon as air went into them they showed side wall cracks. I think it’s better to go new and than you know what got. I wonder what others think of retread tires

I second the new tires over recaps. We’ve never got a recap I was happy with, never had good luck getting a casing credit as they always said that there was something wrong with them, then they turned around and sold me recaps that the sidewalls were cracked to hell, even had to take one back one time that looked like someone had taken a grinder to it, must have been something happen during the retread process, but of course it was in the bottom of the pile in my truck when I picked them up, they were hiding it I would guess. Unless you can guarantee that you are recapping your own casings it’s not worth it in my opinion.
I’ve been thinking of making something that hangs on the side of the tires to keep the sun off them, that’s our biggest problem, most tires get changed before they are wore out because of the sidewalls. And yes I’m thinking of something cheaper than a shop to park them all in.

Not doing caps, priced $50 cheaper. Not worth a cap coming off and doing damage.

I have a bad taste in my mouth with capped tires after issues I had with an older trailer that I had put on a whole set of "once" recapped tires and it did damage the fender pipes and the destroyed the fender on that trailer. Its said that some tire brands and models are better for recapping than others but I think its better to avoid them if possible if one can buy a reasonably priced new tire, there seems to be more risk with a recap that gets aged vs a virgin tire that ages.

Recaps are good if you’re putting KM’s on. Good tread that is put on cost $. Low use needs virgin tires. Never heard of that make before.
Buying retreads off a tire shop sucks.

Those lonmarch are pretty good. A buddy has those for delivering gravel and dirt for the urban bubble dwellers. He is always climbing curbs and what not to dump and new had a problem.
