I was curious how others find their rural internet connection? I use xplornet and it is randomly good or bad. In Winnipeg I have Shaw and it’s hard wired into the house and is pretty quick and reliable unless a wind storm blows the cable down. At the farm internet sucks most when I need to see weather dopplers during thunderstorms. Satellites are ok unless snow storms or rain storms get in the way.
I signed up for valley fibre in my area but don’t know if it will be any better. Still the same price per month. It’s crazy when a small cell phone in Winnipeg can work better than a new lap top computer at the rural farm. I wondered how is cell or internet coverage in the western prairies , eastern Canada or the mid western US?

We are pretty happpy with the speed, and it is the lowest speed tier they have. We had starlink before, but switched to fiber because of price.

We also have Valley Fiber. TV and internet for $120/month. Way better than the 4 mbs we had before with MTS.

Xplornet is good here at my house. I have the 4g version off a tower. It has its moments but is good 96% of the time. Just did a speed test and it’s at 56mb download. Generally I’m around the 30-40.

Just got starlink. 50% off. Showed up about a week after ordering. Was going to put it in the new house this fall. Kids fired it up. They said there is zero lag when playing games. They’re happy. Way better than Sasktel max.

Way better than Sasktel max. I heard Starlink was having a sale. I assume that’s just on the unit itself and hookup? I was considering going to them but out of the blue Telus almost doubled my data on my phone for free, I guess being honest and telling them that their service and coverage sucks when they do their surveys paid off! lol. We’re going to need something better than cell phones for data in the not to distant future though. Heard rumours that there is going to be fibre optic going through my area at some point, and have noticed a bunch of buried phone lines have been marked off and nobody knows why 🤞🤞

Son put in Starlink at his place a 18 months ago. We set up a bridge in May last year during a rain delay during seeding. Now he can be on YouTube while we have two tvs playing movies. His house is a half mile from ours.

Starlink here too, fantastic. It maybe worth looking into starlink Oatking depending how far you farm is from the house. It is easy to move if you buy an extra cable. Unless you need internet at the house all the time, I would look into that. Save paying for two internet services.

Starlink! 120-200 Mbit/s. I put it up on the roof of the house when we got it (it was way early in the beta, when speeds where very intermittent yet and you didn't have coverage over night). and never touched it in two years.

Valley Fiber has been awesome since we got it. Just over two years now, 500 mbps up and down and it always hits it's mark on speedtests. Next to zero down time. Very happy with it.
