I was recently getting some modifications done to my mustang and I WANTED MY LOCAL car repair shop to perform them. When the repair shop ordered the exhaust system from its own supplier they said the part number was not available till June. When I checked with the company that makes the part in question the website showed the part was in stock.
How come this happens when supplier dont share parts. Any one else encounter this problem. my auto repair shop does not want to order from the online store.

I need a motor mount for a 2010 town & country van, Chrysler discontinued it in April, so if it wasn't for the aftermarket Piston Ring and Napa type places a lot of vehicles would be scrap for lack of a simple part in a lot of cases. I also find it interesting that none of the glass places can get a windshield for my 1983 Cordoba, they can get them for 50's 60's 70's cars so that is weird. I have gotten some stuff from Rock Auto, you really have to watch the shipping costs, some of them are excessive and it turns out it is the same cost from Napa. Ordered an exhaust manifold for a slant 6 Chrysler in the JD swather, was surprised when suddenly they had one in stock, so ordered it and paid for it then got a message that they made an inventory mistake and didn't actually have one, so they refunded me, this was Rock Auto.

Optimal, how does that work with Rock Auto as they are a US company correct or do they have a Canadian division. Assuming everything on there is in US prices and coming across the border, isn't the dollar exchange and shipping and duty a killer to getting anything from them ? ( and that would apply to any US companies ) , aside from the fact that it would take forever to get here.

Not sure how rock auto works as there is a retired Gm mechanic that does some work out of his garage and he gets most things from rock auto for older vehicles. He loves working on the 88-98 chev trucks.

Oatking, markup is the key thing in my opinion. Rock auto does have warehouses in Canada, one in Edmonton actually. I ordered a door handle for my chevy, three days to my mail box. Two weeks to put it in, but that is not thier fault lol. With the shipping you need to watch, some stuff doesn't matter US or CA. The post office box is the problem. Shipping an item to a PO box sometimes costs more than a street address.

You can select canadian dollars at the top, all my stuff came from the US. Even though the price shown is can$ the exchange rate is certainly a factor. There are shipping options, and there is quite a range sometimes, they have the locations where the parts are (letter designations A B C etc) I had wondered if they had warehouses in Canada, makes sense that they do, but they will still charge the same. Things arrived fairly quickly, as I recall I picked them up at the post office even though it was supposed to be a courier.

My repair shop in rosenort said it had to charge an ordering charge if they went thru the on line website. It s a funny world where you can have anything online you want with the touch of a few buttons but a company who s business is to get parts and install them dont want to go thru the web. It bugs me why they are so loyal to their supplier.
Your right beerwiser , its the mark up! And john deere is one of the best at that game!!!!

Because they would get the parts at wholesale price and mark them up to sell to you. Through the website they are paying the same price as you so they don’t want to do it for nothing. A $100 part they charge you might only cost them 50-60 bucks
