I have a similar era Case excavator with the cummins engine. I do recall the linkage at the fuel pump breaking and the dial in the cab became unresponsive, I seem to remember it just sitting at idle though.
Not sure what you mean by egas???
Also I have had issues with power drop on that same unit for many years and it would be worse at a low fuel tank. I had changed filters several times and put a new lift pump on and someone mentioned that they occasionally had to blow out their return line to the fuel tank on their machine. I tried that and it seems to have made the difference!!! Went from basically dying under load to lots of power. Can't remember where I got that advice but it may have been on here. I never would have thought of the return line starving an engine, but it clearly was the issue. Perhaps that will be useful in this situation or to others.

I have heard of people pinching the return lines on the older 855 Cummins to get a "power boost" years ago, wouldn't recommend it though.

I have heard of people pinching the return lines on the older 855 Cummins to get a "power boost" years ago, wouldn't recommend it though. Lots of guys ran a dual return line to get more power also

SWMan. What year and modal number is your excavator? It's a 9040B, I believe the year is 2004.
