One thing I haven't got yet for the cattle operation is a stock trailer. What should I be looking for features? There is some used ones for fairly cheap but many have had work done so I'm wondering if these things typically have a hard life and just become problematic after they get some age on them? Even some of the newer steel ones aren't horrible price, probably not buying a new wilson though...lol
Bumper hitch probably works best for me, most seem to be gooseneck though.

Wilson gooseneck is the only way to go….. if I’m spending your money.
I’m not even sure what’s out there for bumper hitch trailers. We have a real industries steel gooseneck trailer that has been really good to us. Bought it new in 2009. We don’t put many miles on ours compared to lots of operations. Most miles it got was pulling it home from the factory. Even the new ones now aren’t terrible priced from what I’ve seen of them. There isn’t much to a trailer if you’re buying used. Tires brakes lights and the floor.

Had two real industries goosenecks, a 16 and a 17, and they pulled nice. Rear door latch was secure and simple. Rubber mats really make the floor last. They were bad for rust around the bottom of the walls though. I've had a Wilson 24 for the past 15 yrs or so. Absolutely nothing compares to it. 😎

Actually looked at a couple of Real Industries trailers on the way by there the other day, they looked good one was a bumper pull with one partition and other was a gooseneck with two partitions. They had the ability to close off the windows so could be used for hauling other stuff if one wanted and be fairly airtight.
Haven't looked at a Wilson yet.
Would be neat if one would double as an enclosed snowmobile trailer.

Better sit down when you get the price of a Wilson.

"Posted by meskie8 hours ago Better sit down when you get the price of a Wilson." Ha, ya I was chatting with our bale hauler about a month ago _ he said one he was looking at was in the 30s at auction.

That’s half of what a new one is worth

What length is appropriate for what number of cows? I have a 1 ton truck and likely everything is overkill for now, but would hate to size it wrong for future purposes. Like is there a certain number of animals where it becomes a problem to get more in, or maybe that's where the inside gates are useful?

Our 24x8 will hold 10 1400lb cows or 20 600lb calves. Loading downhill a bit helps but we do have a pasture where we load out uphill and we can still bring home 7 pairs at a time. Basically only use the dividers when taking bulls out to various pastures or when you're hauling part loads and you don't want them shifting their weight around.

Any experience with Duralite aluminum trailer?
I got the Norbert's sales pitch and was ready to buy one, but can't get until one is built sometime in new year. Not sure if I want to wait as have some steers moving within a month. Wilson tandem is $44,900 maybe a little overkill there...
Nothing has jumped out and grabbed me, partly because not a lot of inventory around here anyways. Kinda thought a used one would pop up but nothing yet.

Maybe time for an old fashioned cattle drive? I'm sure the townsfolk that live next to the butcher would like that. One got away this past summer and caused quite a stir...ha ha

What model of Wilson was that for 44,900? Had a farm around here but a Wilson last spring and it was closer to $60.
Duralight should be a decent trailer especially if you’re not using it everyday hauling stuff around.
A cattle drive still has the right of way on any roads as far as I know.

It was a24’ tandem in gun metal grey.
The 60 price might have been taxes paid also. Along with a few custom options.
They had a 1998 aluminum trailer they had bought new for I think they said 18,000. Everybody told them they were crazy for spending that much on a cattle trailer when a steel one was less than 1/2 that. They guys that bought steel trailers have gone through 2-3 in the same time and they sold there old aluminum at auction this spring for more then they paid.
