What is everyone's experience? Often there is not enough time in the fall, but if given the option what do you do? It is recommended that the soil temperature be low enough in the fall so the chemical doesn't get activated before freeze up. It is nice to get some stuff done in the fall to lessen the spring workload.

Fall. Some start near the end of sept. I’ll start after the first week in October

I’ve never put granular down myself, I remember dad doing it. We have a quarter of barley we’re going to burn off then put something down for wild oats. I was thinking of working it after we burn it. Would I be better off broadcasting it then harrowing a couple times, or put it down with the drill with 3/4 inch openers? How deep?

Been wondering to i have some avadex booked to be spread to but wondering about the harrowing, waiting on custom spreader guy and I'm starting to think it may be to late to harrow by the time it's done a few more nice warm days then single digit highs here, or just harrow it next spring have talked to some people who don't even harrow at all just seed into it next spring so not sure what to do or believe
Also been told that fall is recommended to get the moisture from the snow to fully activate it in the spring in case of a dryer spring for the price it cost i hope it works
I'm new to this aswell we haven't done this since the old cultivating/disker days so learning as i go here

I've used liquid avadex lots but it needs to have a fair bit of dirt showing and either needs a harrow pass or I think the rep said a few tenths of rain would work in spring. I used to have a granular kit that broadcast granular avadex in fall behind the shanks but ahead of the harrows, that worked great. Kinda prefer liquid pre-emerge these days and prefer spring to eliminate weird weather and heavy run-off risk.

Fall seems kind of risky but I wouldn't mind trying it if I had the chance. The fall rate is heavier than spring so the designer clearly thinks there is higher risk/loss doing in fall. If I had a heavy harrow with valmar I would have tried it already I think.
Spring works ok for me. It takes a couple days to do it but keep in mind that when I get out on the land to put down granular it is always at a time when the land is just good enough to put down granular. Meaning I wouldn't consider putting seed down at that time frame. So yes, a few extra days tacked on to seeding season but not days lost that I should have been seeding. And if you feel the need to get out there and do something to warm up the soil in spring then putting the granular down fits.

Granular avedex you can get away without working in. I would still put it out in the fall. If you have no straw I would put liquid in with the spring burnoff
