Anybody have one of these ditching machines or rented one recently. How much hp did you need to pull and was this machine built well enough? What type of laser equipment did you use for ditch slopes. Is this machine worth the money and time compared to a field scraper? Any major problems to speak of?
I was looking into a wolverine for the purpose of cleaning out all my drains. The spring flood has closed up a lot of ditches. I find when the year gets late its hard to find the time to scraper. Also, my worker and I find it the least favorite job.
Thanks for any comments on this machine.

I have one, made very well and I got the new updates which makes them very reliable. 300 hp or so seems to be close to their max or you can get into gearbox issues. I use a mfwd as it seems a 4wd has such a fast first gear. I have RTK and Deere's water programming. And swman is right it don't like big rocks, my fan has a big shear bolt on each paddle in case one gets in there which is better than the old ones which bent the fan.

I owned one for a little while, it was an updated version but I think they did away with the shearbolts in the paddles since? It was very fast but didn't like frozen or rock hard ground, whereas a scraper will go later in the season. Also didn't like my rocks for some reason, little ones not a huge issue but anything over a softball size meant bolts to change. I used Trimble WM Drain software, worked awesome.
Oh and if you plan to take it into solid bulrushes for an extended period of time it will wrap on the front beater.

Sort of off topic a bit, but how steep are the ditches? Are they easy to cross with haying equipment? Particularly a hydoswing haybine. It always makes me nervous crossing spots where it puts a ton of pressure on the neck.

Depends on the cutting size and how many swipes you make. they seem to make a good job from what i seen.

We have one. Ran it with the 8230 last year, I think it's supposed to be around 200 hp? IVT though so can just crawl if you have to.
We have an 8360R now that it's hooked to. Just no time to actually use it.
I prefer it over the scraper. No piles all over. Haven't had any trouble with it yet either.
