A buddy of mine has 55 Cat and is pulling a sprayer. He finds it very jerky as he turns. Would it help if he lets the hitch “free wheel”, so to speak by letting it move freely by unbolting it so it can move left and right?

I don't have any experience pulling a sprayer with a two tracked unit but I know pulling implements that are fairly free rolling along with having weight and give some speed into the equation or a bit of a down grade where the turn takes place, that can cause a wreck by pushing the back end of the tractor around and jackknife the unit plus there may be a water momentum situation in the tank as well that causes further sudden momentum. So one would have to know what sort of speed the turn is being entered into and if its flat or hilly ground. I would think that if a hitch is allowed to float side to side that would cause a worse condition if speed is a factor. I'll give another example as a land roller with a two wheel drive tractor in front, you sure don't want to enter a turn fast as that roller wants to keep on going straight and a light tractor in front and entering a turn too fast is not a good picture. Anyway just thoughts I had as I don't know his operating situation so I would proceed with caution by going slow into turns and see how it reacts with the hitch floating around.

It’s a new to him Cat. Never had a tracked tractor before so maybe he needs to get used to it.
