I’m looking for a set of smaller heavy discs to reclaim areas with slough grass, cat tails, and even lighter work like field edges and sprayer ruts. I’m thinking something like an 16’ offset kello disc 275/325, or something like a 19’-25’ salford 5200 enforcer. I’m not overly concerned about the rough field finish, as the heavy harrows wouldn’t be too far behind to help with seedbed prep, but if the 5200 can do as good of a disc job, leaving a decent finish would be a bonus. I’m not interested in smaller diameter disc (20”) high speed units. I want 24-30” blades. I’ve demod a pro till enough times to know it’s not what I’m looking for. Although I’m intrigued by the 20/26 protill with HD arms and 24” or 26” discs.

I used my summers 2510 38.5 ft disc on a fair bit of pasture and cleared tree land. Worked really well, and to get a good finish I went over fields five times to get the soil blackened and smooth. Working with Peat moss was tough to cut thru. If it was not so dry I could of used a match more often. I tried a wishek disc and found it was way to rough to drive over the second pass. Its a heavy duty disc but didnt work for me on clay loam soils. Actually caused more headaches after using it. I know some guys used a vertical tillage tool like a joker and that worked ok as well. Just doesnt cut as deep as a disc. I wouldnt want to use a vertical speed disc in rocky land. I found the diamond disc with smooth blades worked well rolling over rocks with only a few bearing repairs. My Disc still looks like new since 2012.
With the price of grain I think more land will try to be reclaimed. I would love to take a trip to Brazil and see how those farmers clear land. I am guessing a match must do a lot of work.

Welcome kmelnyk! I own a protill and agree it is not a breaking disc, good for small grains and I do use it for corn as well but mine has 22" notched blades I think. The Salford with bigger and more angled blades is definitely better in corn and moves more dirt and digs better, I believe the neighbors is a 5200 that I have been watching. The Lemken Rubin is a stout unit with a few levels of disc dizes as well.
If this isn't an ongoing thing there might be someone that rents such a machine? I know there are a few around here that rent heavy discs.
