We have grown CPS wheat for 20 years and loved the grade keeping characteristics and yeilds the Crystal and Formost wheats offered us in the past. We have tried the new varieties and have been burnt on all of them and some we have lost our shirt. Pehold seems to be the best option but still yeilds only 80% of Crystal on our farm. We are seeing higher yeilds on our CWSR wheat than Penhold CPS. Only issue with CERS is grad loss in this area due to moisture in harvest. Anyone have a better option other than finding Crystal seed?

I tried Penhold a few years back but gave up because it was too prone to vomi. This was grown in the Red River Valley where until recently it was not uncommon your wheat glowed pink! Brandon wheat works the best here.

I grew Penhold must be close to ten years ago now, all I remember is it looked like it was gonna be amazing but didn't outperform the HRS and straw was like wire. Never grew again.
Do you grow HRS? Brandon was always a concern on holding it's falling number but it has performed really well for many years. Usually get a #2 even with some weather on it. HRS is best way to avoid a class discount I think, but honestly a bunch of my best wheat has made it's way into the feed market in recent years. I think the way the feed market is, grading isn't as much of a concern anymore. Maybe that's just a "here thing" though?

I Tried CS Accelerate this year. Wasn’t a good year to compare as it got hailed on 2x (40%). It handled the storms well and stood strong. Still Yielded 55, i was shocked and graded #2 13% protein (don’t seam to get paid for that anymore). Will grow again this year. Have been growing Brandan and Red Berry, ok but just can’t seam to get grade around here with weather so thought would try CPS to get yield up. Found Brandon sprouts easy and red berry lodges easy/bad. That’s my experience last few years…

We are growing Redberry, used to be Brandon, the test year was inconclusive but I went with Redberry since it was newer. I have a bin of Brandon in case I want to go back. There really wasn't enough difference between them for the most part, Redberry has a deeper color that it seems to maybe not weather as bad. Haven't been too impressed with protein, but as above doesn't pay this year anyway, we are about 13% this year at just over 40bu. Straight cut it hoping to avoid swath rain damage, not pretty but should be a 2 according to harvest sample results @ CGC. No problem with lodging. For an experiment this year I put a copper additive in with the fungicide, was hoping to put it in with herbicide but had a supplier issue. Did not do a check strip on purpose, didn't really see any difference in appearance, but had no ergot for the first time in 10 years, maybe coincidence, but will try it again this year.

SWMAN: Yes we grow HRS. We grow Viewfield CWRS which does very well. We just hit it hard to make sure we keep grade and take it wet and run it in our dryer. Cps we can wait till it drys with the sun and still walk away with a 1 or 2 grade.
Mags: I will look up the CS Accelerate Sounds good.
OptimallyDismal: Brandon looses grade and yeilds are poor in this area for some reason. But will look at Redberry.
