Got around to cleaning up the shop a little today, usually for the last bit before freeze up everything just gets chucked in there to be dealt with when we have time. Our little yard sprayer we pull behind the quad was in there with a few gallons of Roundup in it, it dumped what was left into a couple jugs and noticed what looked like pieces of wood floating in it. Upon further investigation I noticed it was rubber pieces that looked like it could possibly be a large o-ring. There was also a couple pieces of clear silicon I would guess. The last times we filled it up were right out of the sprayer. Where could this have come from? I can't see it being from the sprayer as we put a hose on the fill coupler and dump it into the small sprayer, and it has a screen right there, so should rule out the sprayer. Our 2 inch Honda pump seemed to be still working good with no leaks. The only other places I can think of would be from the well, or out of a drum of Roundup. Has anyone ever found contaminants from the chemicals? I have my doubts about that. Not sure where to start looking.

The clear silicone I am guessing are off chem jugs going through the handler. If you don't have a handler, then I am out of ideas. I know every time I save RU out of the high clearance I have slivers of chem jugs in the container I drain into. The black stuff could be a few things depending on your water source. When I was using well water, I would get black chunks of rust I am guessing. Since switching to city water, it has cut down on that but I still get crud in the tank by the end of the season. If it is actually rubber, it could possibly be from valves on your rinse tank. No one pays attention to them lol.

Could also be chunks of rubber hose at fittings. They will get damaged on assembly and take years to work them selves off and through the system. If it was from somewhere important you will find out soon enough.

Had a closer look at the pieces that I found yesterday, it isn't rubber like I thought, but a fairly hard plastic, and what I thought was silicon turned out to be a clear plastic. Has me baffled, have screens from the tanks of water and on the sprayer fill, so had to come from somewhere in between, no way it came from a chemical drum as it wouldn't have fit through the hoses. Might be one of those things a guy never figures out and just blame the kids!

Having just looked at that picture, it almost looks like a pickup finger off a pickup header. Might have to have a look at the combine tomorrow. Wonder if there was a mischievous squirrel in the shop that stuffed then into the pump or hose??
