Just wondering what some of you are willing to pay for some quick cat work. DU is doing some work (screwing shit up) south of me and I thought I would talk to the contractor to do a quick cash job.
So I want some overburden taken out, roughly 6"-12" deep tops, enough to drain a bit of the major slough on the home quarter. No fancy sloping etc, just get the majority of the material out of the way. Most of the work was done in spring by me and all I need is the cat to run there and back for 100' or so until they feel it is too wet. Where I want cleaned is dry enough that I drove through with the pickup in summer. I know it is hard to explain, but with my experience in heavy equipment, it will take longer to get here than to do the job. I am not current on hourly rates, but in my mind 300 cash should be plenty to do what I want. Am I out to lunch?

If it's only a couple hours total including travel time, 300 would likely cover it, if I'm understanding what you want done. Have you run equipment much? I used to, and often some guys would figure a job would only be an hour or two, but in reality it would be close to a days work, many people overestimated what a machine was capable of.

Think a cat here is 175 an hour or was until this last round of everything going ridiculous. That would be a D6r sized machine. Not sure what it’s like over in your part of the world but the big issue here is getting somebody to show up. Most of the guys running dozers, scrapers etc are going flat out and booked solid.

Being that they are right beside u though most guys are pretty good and would sneak over for something like that. Should have read a bit slower before I sent that.

Yeah I have run equipment and have my own rubber tire hoe. I know it would take me half a day doing what I want with the hoe, but since there is a cat (JD 650 wide pad)sitting I figure I would help these guys pay their bills or at least buy a supper and case of beer. It would be so much quicker and cleaner too with a cat. These guys are scared to break through, walk the cat, etc. The more I think about this, I might as well do it myself. They also have no truck to haul it etc, blah blah blah.
I should note that I talked to both land owners south of me and they have no problems with the cat running across their land to get to mine as that is why they are there to begin with.

Guys charge 375 an hour with a laser, 600 hp tractor and Ktec scrapper (25 yard scrapper) here in the red river valley with an operator and fuel. A high hoe was about 130 an hour plus 300 moving cost. I do most of my draining with my 12 yard scrapper and 946 versatile.

Unless you have a neighbor close by with a cat, not likely to get anyone to do it for cash IMO. I have to admit I wouldn't get involved unless you was a friend and close by, be more time moving and screwing around ect than doing the actual work pretty much by the sounds of it. If I do any work try to base it on @100hr for my LGP 7H, but usually get into creativity so can avoid GST and such. Often fuel gets supplies ect. I move myself as well, but again, too much iron not enough axles, so I need to be able to get there without getting caught doing so too lol.
An idea, does Flaman still rent out scrapers?

If I understand your job you should rent a pulldozer from someone, best tool to use when it's wet as long as you have a decent size tractor to hook on the front. I've rented mine several times and at least two of the guys went and bought their own after.
