I put a half section of hilly, some sloughs on it for sale on kijiji. Had an email from Ducks Unlimited asking about it. There was a thread on the old forum about them purchasing land. What are peoples thoughts on them? I read they buy and then resell, but the owner cannot touch the wetland areas. Is this true?

Ducks unlimited is a useless pos corporation that will ruin all your neighbours land as well as the one they buy. They lobby the gov’t to ban drainage and dam up the existing drainage. I absolutely hate them, and tell any hunter with an association with them to get off my property.

Yeah, I have some concerns about dealing with them. It produces good crops, but it would also make a good half section for grass to put cattle on. It has sloughs on normal years, only time I've seeded corner to corner was 2003 and possibly next year as well, if we dont get any substantial snowfall. Drainage is a non factor on this land.

Kind of curious why DU would be interested in it if it only has some sloughs on it. I never cared for DU much, but after they flooded 5 quarters down stream of them last year I really have no use for them now. The guy running the show for them offered me a bag of pot for flooding me out though, and he was not joking. Yeah, I am pissed with them. f*cking idiot just about got dragged out the window of his truck for that comment.

Where do they get there funding from? Are there any farmers who would lease or buy in the area. Sounds like a bad idea to sell to them. You would think guys would be looking for more pasture land.

Neighbor said they get funding from big players in the U.S. I havent really talked with the lady that e-mailed, just gave her some particulars of the land. Yes there is some farmers here that I would rather sell too, they have first chance at it. The black hats, have pasture half mile away, I probably will be hearing from them as well.

DU was able to raise a shitload of cash by selling off land that had been donated to them thru peoples estates. Problem is that land had been donated with the understanding it would not be sold but used to do the wildlife thing ect, but rented out and farmed as well. There was more than a few lawsuits over this, they are being accused outright of acting under false pretenses and in bad faith. Not sure what the status is anymore of any of those lawsuits.

I would give my land away before I sold it to them. If you hate your neighbors, sell it to Ducks, and they will hate you back. They have cost us 10's of thousands of dollars over the years because they didn't maintain the waterways they were supposed to. They had a caveat on some land that we now own that just ran out last year, we rented it when they took it on and put the caveats on it, we didn't know they were supposed to maintain the culverts and beaver population. In 20 years not once did they even check on the land they were supposed to "maintain". That was until a couple years ago when we were cleaning out a beaver dam for the hundredth time and one of their employees lost their shit on me. The landlord that we rent some of it from gladly put the person back in their place.
I rate them equal to Leon's Manufacturing.
