We haven’t grown dekalb canola for years. Used to grow it but didn’t perform as well as other varieties for some reason. Green seed was also an issue in later years for guys that did grow it in this area. North east sask. Now that they have buteo seed treatment we are giving it a hard look as we had extreme flea beetle pressure this spring and the cutterbar was black with them when swathing so I’m thinking it will be bad again next spring. I’m also done supporting BASF so another reason to look at some different liberty canola. For guys growing dekalb just wondering how they are turning out?

We grew some 82SC to compare against our Invigors this year. Same yields, plants were shorter and less bushy, a bit shorter maturing and had some pod drop/shelling but so did a bunch of the Invigors with the drought/heat. Sprayed all the Invigor/Lumiderm fields for bugs but not the 82SC with Buteo. Seed size was super tiny on it which was great for the $/seed with their 50lb bags but we seed with a planter and it had some troubles with such tiny seed. In our experience the smaller seed also has much worse vigor out of the ground and that was the case for both the Dekalb and size A Invigors this year. Overall I wasn't disappointed in it but don't know if I was impressed enough to grow more of it, we might try it one more year and see if it can keep up on a higher yielding year.

We used to always grow 7444 and were never disappointed with the yield and harvestability but they didn't offer it last fall so we booked some dk98 (buteo, Jumpstart, lumiderm) and some by6204 (lumiderm). Both truflex and clubroot varieties. Pretty impossible year to do much of a comparison but they both weathered the flea beatles without me having to spray, looked terrible all summer but were easy to swath and fairly easy to thrash. In the low spots both showed they have potential to yield very well.

We grew both but the dekalb was on alkaline land did 33-35 where the BY6204 did a solid 38. Over by Marshall,Sk

Like you mentioned, hard year to judge. Both we could swath whatever direction we wanted. The 98 might have had a little less tendency to shell. Our best 98 went 32 and our best 6204 went 34, so a wash there IMO. But our worst 6204 went 30 and our worst 98 went 22. The 6204 also looked better in the truck, darker and more even sized seeds.
