Anyone have issues with bent aeration rockets in welded bins. I think we are a perfect 10 out of 10. They have been this way for several years but now one has decided to give up entirely and is basically blocking all air flow. So empty the bin, cut it out, and replace with what? Any suggestions?

Never had that happen with a rocket but have had the round perforated tube get crunched in a couple of hopper bins. You can get retro rockets to put in hoppers through the man hole in the hopper that bolt together.
Our 24’ hopper bins have the inverted V trough in them and they seem to work good for getting air through the grain. They also make a inverted V in a X shape now to get air through the grain more even.

I have one smaller bin that we put a retro rocket in but the rocket is much smaller, maybe half the size. Do the retro rockets come in different sizes (can't remember was probably 10yrs ago that we installed it) can the x shaped air systems be retrofitted?

I imagine dumping grain on them with a full 13" auger is pretty hard on them. Probably the first load should go in at half speed. But we're never patient for that.

I’m sure the X could be retrofitted. We have put the regular inverted V in a bin just be a bit extra welding. Any bin smaller then 24’ I would just go with regular Inverted V

I haven't wrecked any yet after four or five years of running a 13" auger. I do try to be careful with my flat bottom bin aeration floors, though. Definitely put the first 600 bu in kind of slow to create a cone that will spread out the weight, then full bore after that.

I am not sure if the failure is from filling or emptying. I have seen corrugated bins crumpled due to unloading too fast with the auger not drawing close enough to the center. Will have to look at some other systems. Thanks.

I have seen that cube before in pictures. Would like to see one in person. Do you know who sells them in Southern Alberta?

Thanks shmiffy. Emptied the bin and the rocket was bent basically 90 degrees. The top was bent down to the hopper. Just left it for now and filled the bin back up with dry wheat. Went to start the fan on another bin and found it full of grain so emptied it and found that rocket had split along the seam where it is spot welded to form the outer skin. Spray foamed it shut for now and filled it back up. Fkn junk! More stuff to fix, yay!
