What are western Canadian Farmers thoughts on this government program. I wish the provinces would agree to shelf this program and put the dollars into Crop or livestock insurance. At least it would be a little more bankable and would make administration costs lower. I know lots of farmers who dont bother to pay into this program. Even crop insurance is being passed up by some so i dont know where right balance is now. I have paid into this program over the years but have never collected thank goodness. I was surprised in 2019 I had a rough year and was not even close to a payment so its not worth the cost. I dont think its a great reason but if you decide to skip out a couple years its a pain in the butt to do all the paper work to get back in.
Wonder where all the money is going if the province say they cant afford it. I had a sh it kicking in 2019 and didnt collect,.... man you got to be in dire needs to be in a payment position and even that would not be life support to keep a decent sized farm going. Who is collecting?
Anybody see it differently?

I opted out of that program the year they changed to coverage of a percentage of allowable expenses instead of lost income. You'd have to be drowning and this program would only throw you a deflated buoy without a rope! It's not there to save you, just your suppliers.

I was in it until last fall I decided not to participate. I hate the paper work and I don't like them knowing all my assets. I will be dropping crop ins. as well. I hope it doesn't bite me.

Agri stability is a joke, I'm constantly getting audited as they are to lazy to figure the simple numbers out themselves they need me to spell it out, took a kicking leaving the crop out in 2016 just about took me out of the farming game and i stayed in for abit thinking it would maybe pay but nope just another audit and i hate paper work better investing the money to be in the program into agri invest
Should scrap the program and fix up crop insurance would be way better as I always thought crop insurance numbers were a little to far behind what the times actually are

Only people getting any money from Agri-stability these days are the accountants and the government employees that process the forms. When they neutered that program many years ago I dropped it.
Crop insurance I got out of probably 15 plus years ago, haven't missed it one bit.
Agri-invest is a no brainer, but basically a handout.

Dropped it long ago. Not much in it for a straight grain farmer and an absolute goose egg if you have cattle in the mix.

We never did join it. Our accountant years ago said it was a scam and almost impossible to trigger a payment, he was a good honest accountant, the only good one FBC ever had. Oops, did I say that out loud?
