Did some soil test this fall and the rates I'm using for Nitrogen and Phos required needed are what I'm doing now and its also asking for some sulfur and I've never used sulfur much in cereals, been doin it in canola for a while but never cereals , is there a yield bump or protein bump,
what are guys finding for results are you better off with more phos or nitrogen for the money or sulfur for the win, tryin to get upwards of 60 Bpa, already planning seeding the wheat abit heavier this year

Soil tests are somewhat unreliable on sulfur, hit one pocket of high S and it can throw the test off. However if you have a low test it probably needs some.
I am convinced that good sulfur levels are key for big cereal crops. How you apply it is pretty flexible, it is a mobile nutrient. I've always been partial to elemental sulfur like Tiger 90 or similar products. Elemental is very seed safe, easier on hoses, non-corrosive and much cheaper per # than AMS. Because of its mobility and the slow release of elemental it works good as a broadcast option too. At times I have just put 25# or so on every year in every crop blended with my 11-52, also have done broadcast apps of 100-125# and left it four years before doing again. If you think you are low I would give it a good shot and then go to maintenance after that.

One particular fertilizer dealer has been pushing the S15 here. Last year was the first time I used it on the cereals as well as the canola. I ran out on the barley and switched to an N and P blend. At harvest there was close to 15 bu yield difference. This year I’m putting S15 on everything. My wheat protein was also quite high and yield decent. Don’t know about oats if there was any advantage but I’m trying to build sulphur levels for canola. Anything you read you need enough sulphur for the wheat to make protein.

I agree with south west man, also sulfur is good for your carbon ratio in your soils. I use a sulfur, and 11-52 blend with the seed and than use the mid row banders for nh3 with oats. 15 lbs sulfur . The blend is basically the same as canola. I believe we have to use the NPK and S nutrients properly before playing around with micro nutrients.

heard good things about s15 sulfur hear its priced high this year, I like the idea of bio-sul sulfur but it was just the up front cost I didn't like but that just me, thinkin on trying some just not sure how much to put down the test are calling for 25 lbs, everything is a blend here as i only have 2 tanks seed in one and fert in the other not the ideal set up but a bigger drill is on the wish list
